Here's to ya, Doc. You broke my heart...but you went out with one of the greatest parting lines in history.

(10,044 posts)I can't remember what I know about Hunter Thompson-- I do remember that Johnny Depp praised Thompson in an appearance on David Letterman a while back, and there was some discussion about a movie that had to do with both of them.....
Now, I'll look at Google and see how wrong I am..
Thanks.

(10,044 posts)Am very fond of Depp, that's why I remembered the interview..didn't Depp say that he was doing or did a movie about Hunter's life?
What was it, if it was?

Thank you for posting. I had all but forgotten the interview, but Depp's admiration for him was very memorable.

(6,568 posts)the 2 disc Criterion Collection edition of the film is the best. The second disc is chock full of interviews with Thompson and Depp. Really good stuff.

(6,568 posts)which was based on Thompson's book of the same name. He also starred in "The Rum Diaries", which was based on Thompson's first fictional novel. He spent a LOT of time with Thompson between the late 90s and Thompson's death, and they became great friends.
I believe there was talk of a biopic starring Depp, but I don't think it got much further than talking.
Bill Murray did a great job as Thompson in the early 80s. "Where The Buffalo Roam" was incredible.
