Head of police union in Kensington had his gun, badge, handcuffs, and ammunition stolen

Now, here's the situation. Kensington California Police Sergeant Keith Barrow was availing himself of the pleasure of a prostitute in Reno Nevada. I know, California, Nevada. Why was he toting his gun and badge across state lines? One of many questions unanswered by this article. http://www.contracostatimes.com/ci_27483758/east-bay-cop-whose-gun-was-stolen-by

Kensington police Sgt. Keith T. Barrow lost more than his moral compass last year during an encounter with a prostitute in a Reno hotel room.

When he fell asleep and woke up a short time later, according to court records and interviews, the hooker -- and Barrow's badge, handcuffs, .40-caliber service pistol and two clips of ammunition -- were all gone.

The one thing the 47-year-old detective hasn't lost is his job.

Barrow was never even placed on administrative leave when his East Bay police department learned what happened in the "Biggest Little City in the World" and investigated it. Law enforcement experts consulted by this newspaper found that deeply troubling, and some residents of the quaint, affluent hillside town called it outrageous.

Now Prostitution is legal in Nevada. So availing himself of that particular service is troubling from a morality standpoint, but not so much from a legal one apparently. However, as Barrow is not a police officer in Nevada, one has to wonder what the legal ramifications of carrying a concealed weapon in Nevada were? Apparently none for the cop, since he didn't even get a couple days of "administrative leave" which is free paid vacation for those of you unfamiliar with the nuances of police lingo.

One point of credit for Sergeant Barrow. He did immediately report the items as stolen to the local police in Reno, and advise his bosses of it back in Kensington. Of course, since he's the President of the Police Union in Kensington, you can assume that the Union would be opposed to any serious consequences for this fine upstanding officer.

I should point out the gun was recovered when the Pimp of the aforementioned hooker shot himself in the leg with the gun. It isn't mentioned in the article if the other items were recovered. Perhaps the hooker is even now using the handcuffs as part of her work tools.

I suppose we can assume that Sergeant Barrow wasn't driving a department car, or the hooker would have stolen that too.

Don't publish the rules that govern their behavior. That way they never have to actually follow them.

I know if I lose company property, there is a clear written policy for the response.
