I don't think they should die in a vat of hot boiling oil exactly, but come on... it's just obnoxious.

(15,438 posts)according to various studies.
1. Cold weather may help you lose weight.
2. Cold weather can be good for what hurts you. (Think about it: Ice has long been considered nature's anesthesia. It numbs our injuries and reduces swelling.)
3. Cold weather may improve your sex life.
4. Cold kills disease-mongering insects.
5. Cold weather has been linked to living longer.
In order to avoid copyright violations, I've only reported the five reasons without explanations.
You can read the complete explanation for each reason at the HuffPost.

(3,660 posts)I get to live in a nicely built 2500 sq ft 4/3 with a landscaped half acre for less than the price of an efficiciency rental in the less desirable parts of your area, 12 months a year. It only gets cold a couple of weeks out of that year..

(269,022 posts)26 here and loving it - folks in Negril say they're freezing at 24.
Of course we locals don't go to the beach in this 'freezing weather'
Saw some destruction from that cyclone on TV this morning

(35,961 posts)I've seen people from up north rugged up when they visit here even though I think it's sweltering
I've got a cousin living in the path of the cyclone and he was busy stocking up yesterday, though I thought he was crazy for not leaving and getting out of the way of it...

(35,961 posts)Cyclone Marcia's a Category 5, but they're the same as hurricanes and weaken as they move in from the coast. He said they're probably going to get some flooding but none of the super scary stuff. Me, I'm glad I live further south where cyclones never happen coz I crap myself with normal storms, so one of those things would totally freak me out

I got a new winter coat last fall and haven't even got to wear it once, yet.
Our Washington weather is wacked.
Violet_Crumble
(35,961 posts)I get them both confused. Mild winters are pretty good, so make the most of not being able to wear yr coat

(8,554 posts)There ain't no snow up in our Cascade mountains, no snowpack means no water in our rivers and it's gonna be disastrous come fire season.
We usually do have mild winters, but over sixty degrees and sunny clear days in January and February is totally wacky!
(I haven't had a new coat since 1983...I got tired of stuffing new batting into that old one and it finally got too ragged-looking. I told my man when we bought it that I was probably jinxing winter and that's exactly what happened, ha!)

(53,342 posts)Same as being up north and it dropping to sub-zero when you're used to lows in the 20s or so.
It's all relative to what one's been accustomed to experiencing.
So, when it hits 50 in the winter up north after a long cold spell, it seems SO WARM! But 50 after several days of 70s/80s in FL will be downright chilly, esp. in the shade.

(60,335 posts)Sorry,
My daughter calls from Clearwater telling us it is cold. I tell her to shut up, she could be here in Cleveland.

(53,342 posts)I work during the week in Virginia (was 0F this morning) and my wife calls me as she's driving our daughter to school that she's freezing. I can sorta commiserate but when my hands literally hurt from the short walk from the hotel to loading my luggage into the rental car, I can't commiserate much!

(8,554 posts)out here in the Pacific Northwest and you don't want to know about that?
Freaky weather is freaky weather and it does no one any good to ignore the extremes such as the ones happening right now in the USA. What's happening to us out here on the West Coast is what's causing the cold back East, if you'd look at a weather map.

(14,337 posts)Local channels. They constantly show the weather around the country when it snows. They love to say how cold it is here and there. "Aren't you happy you are here and not there?" Makes me want to throw something at the TV. Paradise, paradise, paradise. If I had a dime for every time they say THAT!!!
They must be crying in their soup this year. It has been very cool this winter. Last night broke a 50 year old record with 34 degrees in Naples. My husband said they actually gave a wind chill in the 20s! lol
I am back in NY where it was 1 degree last night with a wind chill of -19. Cold but I will try to think of this when the heat index in SW Florida is over 100 degrees for months on end, and I am hibernating in the house with the AC blasting.
I will take the COLD any day over Florida's Seasons of Hot, Hotter, Hottest, and HELL.

(21,020 posts)eventually I get my turn to rub salt in the wounds.
Like during the summer when my mom in FL can't go outside because it's blazing hot or they're having their daily thunderstorm and giant cockroaches and alligators and lizards are peering at her through the screen doors.
Then there's hurricane season.
Me texting mom: "I hear you have a hurricane watch down there. We don't up here. Sorry."

I realize I'm in the minority here - but the thought of broiling hot, humid summer days gives me a sense of dread.
