(28,394 posts)It is going to be a record low for the date. We are also having the 5th coldest Feb. on record, so far.
Our house is chilly, but I'm under the electric throw. The worst part is taking the dogs out. Their feet get so cold out there.
Thanks for the warm thoughts.

(17,045 posts)What do you keep your heat on? Do you have another heat source? Stove? Fireplace?
femmocrat
(28,394 posts)This house is just drafty because it has an addition that sucks out all the heat. We converted the fireplace to propane a number of years ago. Big mistake.... it makes no heat. When our power was out for several days, we did cook on it though! Just like camping out. LOL

(14,449 posts)It is 37 degrees in Orlando and I have the heat on at 76 degrees and still a bit chilly...not horrible though. My neighbor who I visited today had they're heat on so high, I actually perspired a bit...very uncomfortable. They must keep they're heat mid 80's. I hope you stay ok and as warm as possible. It is supposed to get to 81 on Sunday. Weird weather. My electric bill will be pretty high this month. Thermostat has been at 76 for close to a week....yieks!

Honestly, I feel like a wimp for complaining - this has been an unusually warm winter for the most part. Nothing like last year when the temps stayed below zero for weeks, thanks to the Polar Vortex. It's just that usually by this time in February, we're pretty much done with the double digits below zero kind of weather. But this too shall pass...

(14,691 posts)trying to be grateful I don't live in Boston but today that didn't work. It's now 12 in NYC with a windchill of -17. Humidity is 45% but the dew point is -7! Tomorrow (Friday) should be marginally better. Windchills will be above zero, or approx. 2 degrees. Saturday will be warmer so that means we'll get snow and then Sunday warmer still and forecast is for rain. Then the temp. will drop "like a rock" as a local ABC meteorologist says always with great relish. I assume that means the wet pavement will turn to ice. WOO HOO Next week we're still in the freezer.

(62,325 posts)is at least a foot of snow still on the ground which is blowing around making it appear that we are in the middle of a blizzard.
The dog is the main problem, her feet get so cold she holds them up off the ground. We're looking for sled doggie boots for her. The cats won't even go out, except for the 'snow panther'. He's big and acts more like a dog than a cat, he has a thick, long haired shiny black coat. We think he's part Maine Coon. But even he won't stay out this year for more than a few minutes.
45 in Alaska? Isn't that unusual? I think for here it is way below normal for this time of year.
People will be going to Alaska soon to get away from the cold!

(11,925 posts)Wind chills making it worse. This cheap apartment I live in,is drafty as crap,if you drop your feet near the floor you can feel a bit of cold wind, also the mini blinds do nothing to keep a steady cool breeze off of you so I sit here wrapped in blankets and still feel the chill. This place. Has no insulation. Shit they didn't even bother to paint the cheap cardboard covered drywall plaster with any paint.
This place was financed as low income housing by a fucking bank, never expect a rich corporate pig organization to give a quality home to those they'd rather see dead.$600 a month for this in 3years this place will be falling apart. Already we've had a shooting next door, drug raids, criminals pretending to be maintenance banging on doors...this place isn't safe it's hell.
I so miss my house, it was safe, I had painted the walls beautiful, cold nights like this were nothing if you had heat, the insulation killed all the drafts. I'd have my heat set at 69 and it was warm there. In this stupid apartment 70 degrees feels like 60. I don't think I will ever recover from losing my old home,I miss it still. Living in an unfamiliar hostile(they harass anyone different this place is full of bigots racists assholes) place with no way to get around,no way to see freinds ect.sucks, but it's horrible to me because I live 99% of the time alone here. Life just sucks, since my sisters stole the house and sold it leaving me with nothing nowhere to go. I had to go here. I am starting to just vacillate from hate to despair. Tonight is the perfect sort of bitter cold I would walk outside find a nice spot lay down and freeze if I didn't have mom and my cats. if I didn't have them I'd be out there looking at the moon until it all went away.

New severe weather due tomorrow and Sunday plus another storm due next week. Cannot get out of my driveway, road too narrow to back out. Piles too high to back in. Town is paralyzed.
