She talked about the recent railroad crashes with oil tankers. The focused on the oil being pumped out of the ground in North Dakota and that the oil companies aren't building the necessary infrastructure to remove the unstable, volatile compounds that are pumped out along with the oil. The oil companies are just pumping the oil into oil tankers on rail roads and shipping them off. They are so volatile that is why you have such horrible incidents like the crash yesterday in West Virginia (#2 crash of rail cars from ND).
It just seems like the oil companies are allowed to set what can only be described as mobile bombs out on the rails creating a real risk to the population.
If you missed this segment I recommend either DVRing the replay or download the podcast of today's show tomorrow.

(37,364 posts)I just sent a note to my local news broadcaster to do a story locally. I live a little more than a football field's length from a rail road track on which tankers, some identifiable to ADM but others not marked at all, pass daily. If such an event were to happen here, it would devastate our village.

(14,807 posts)about 100 of them were stalled on the tracks for some reason. SOON they will spill. Soon. And the top of the Mississippi River will be polluted all the way down to the gulf to meet that pollution.
Please make it stop. Somehow.

(10,952 posts)volatile compounds removed from the oil and just pump it into a pipeline instead of oil tanker cars they will not have made the oil any safer. It would make me concerned that any pipeline used by the ND oil would still be a ticking time bomb.
Public safety should trump whiny oil company owners.
