Texas students flash ‘White Power’ signs during basketball game against mostly-black high school

http://www.wfaa.com/story/news/local/denton-county/2015/02/17/plano-east-parents-students-object-to-sign-at-game/23536145/

This basketball game had enough drama on its own. Friday night's contest between Flower Mound High School and Plano East went into three overtimes.

But what made social media circles over the weekend happened just beyond the confines of the court. A picture was tweeted out showing a sign being held up Flower Mound's student section that read "WHITE POWER."

An athlete with Plano East who was at the game spoke with News 8, but asked that we not share his picture or name.

"We thought it was racist. It said "white power," and we were shocked," the student said.

Gosh, I love living in a post-racial society! Don't you?

Yes. No racism here. Way past all that.

The next time Texans talk about secession why not let them? They get far more in subsidies from the Federal Government than they pay in taxes. That makes them welfare queens. Like the other southern states.

Plus if they seceded the average national IQ would go up.

Willful ignorance cannot be educated out of an arrogant bigot.

I hope Plano East won the game.

I remember two years ago, I was watching the Today show and as Al Roker, was walking past the gathered fans outside, someone had a White Power sign, which could be clearly seen. This type of stuff is creeping into all avenues of the media: social, tv, radio, etc. So this isn't really that much of a surprise, unfortunately. Incredible, how one black man (PBO), can unleash such hatred.

And sexists and homophobes, and all the other extremely ugly elements of society. Their hatred of Obama is a uniting factor for sure, but having public forums in which to spout their bullshit doesn't help things.

POWER and the upside down sign on the right look like they are the same size and lettering .Amother sign is facing up snd can't be seen .

I am not Columbo ,this took place in Texas but it could be just chance .Only those kids know the intent and what all the signs say .I hope it isn't what it looks like .

Maybe it is just pure ignorance.

Seems to be plenty of African Americans in the crowd there.

I've lived in Flower Mound. It's an upper middle class and wealthy area. No one I knew that lived or lives there was racist. Admittedly that's a small sample size (and I'm white), but I find this shocking. I'd like to know what the other signs say.

I'm not going to straight dismiss that this happened. I fully expect any student involved in racial slurs to be appropriately disciplined and not pushed under the rug. Flower Mound isn't east Texas.
