http://www.wfaa.com/story/news/local/denton-county/2015/02/17/plano-east-parents-students-object-to-sign-at-game/23536145/But what made social media circles over the weekend happened just beyond the confines of the court. A picture was tweeted out showing a sign being held up Flower Mound's student section that read "WHITE POWER."
An athlete with Plano East who was at the game spoke with News 8, but asked that we not share his picture or name.
"We thought it was racist. It said "white power," and we were shocked," the student said.
Gosh, I love living in a post-racial society! Don't you?

(42,641 posts)Yes. No racism here. Way past all that.
The next time Texans talk about secession why not let them? They get far more in subsidies from the Federal Government than they pay in taxes. That makes them welfare queens. Like the other southern states.
Plus if they seceded the average national IQ would go up.

I hope Plano East won the game.

(147 posts)I remember two years ago, I was watching the Today show and as Al Roker, was walking past the gathered fans outside, someone had a White Power sign, which could be clearly seen. This type of stuff is creeping into all avenues of the media: social, tv, radio, etc. So this isn't really that much of a surprise, unfortunately. Incredible, how one black man (PBO), can unleash such hatred.

Seems to be plenty of African Americans in the crowd there.

(26,582 posts)I've lived in Flower Mound. It's an upper middle class and wealthy area. No one I knew that lived or lives there was racist. Admittedly that's a small sample size (and I'm white), but I find this shocking. I'd like to know what the other signs say.

(26,582 posts)I'm not going to straight dismiss that this happened. I fully expect any student involved in racial slurs to be appropriately disciplined and not pushed under the rug. Flower Mound isn't east Texas.
