Im confused. Very, very confused.
Israels Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, says his country is in imminent danger of being nuked off the face of the earth by Iran.
But he wants every Jew to flee terror attacks in the rest of the world
and come to live in Israel?
Makes perfect sense, right?
Well, no, obviously it doesnt.

(10,274 posts)ISIS and Al Qaeda would absolutely love every Jew fleeing their homes and heading to Israel. It would be the greatest imaginable PR coup for them.
More have been killed by terrorism there this century than any other country.
How so?
Well cast your minds back to September 11, 2001.
At least 270 Jews are known to have died in the attacks on the World Trade Center on 9/11. Possibly as many as 400.
Thats between 10 and 15 percent of all the victims.
I dont remember hearing anyone, least of all Benjamin Netanyahu, declare then that every Jew in New York should immediately quit the city and go and live in Israel.
No, what I saw and heard was the whole city, regardless of ethnicity or religion, come together as one to stand up against this hideous attack on their freedoms.
The Jewish community, which totals over a million people in New York - making it the largest outside of Israel itself stood firm and resilient.

(99,711 posts)And surveys suggest there is much more anti-semitism in much of Europe than the United States. And in surveys of this nature I actually believe the numbers of of people with racist, anti-semitic, homophobic, et cetera attitudes is higher because most folks are reluctant to admit they are haters, even to anonymous questioners.

(1,893 posts)....shame them to become less tolerant of violence against Jews, more supportive of Israel and less tolerant of Islamic extremism.
It's PR ... He doesn't expect tens of thousands to up and leave

(42,759 posts)The 9/11 attacks were not specifically aimed at Jews the way that the recent rise in anti-semitism Europe and other countries.
While anti-semitism exists in the US, it is nowhere near what has been going on in France and some other countries.
Its actually pretty easy to understand.
(For the record, I think Netanyahu is off-base in calling for Jews to leave Europe; but that doesn't mean that I don't understand why he would focus on Europe and not the US).

The stupid thing is, if they all actually did that, it would mean that the antisemites had won. For all time.
The State of Israel has a right to exist (so long as it stays within thepre-1967 boundaries and the Palestiniams get a state comprising the West Bank and Gaza) but it would be an intolerable tragedy if the rest of the planet became voluntarily Judenrein.
We need to fight for a world in which there is no prejudice against anyone, NOT hive people off into bunker-states.

(14,732 posts)'Judenrein' (Jew-free) is the term Nazis employed to report their success in either killing and/or deporting Jews from a given area to their superiors. A hideous, horrendous term that has no possible use in a civilized discussion.

(50,254 posts)It would be the same thing as if they were forced out by the Reich. it would be nothing but a tragedy and a victory for those who hate Jews. Nothing positive would result and it would be impossible for Jewish people ever to return to the countries they left.
Why give the antisemites what they want?
