It has nothing to do with defending anyone. I'm stating facts.

Iraq was an unnecessary, ill-advised war that destabilized the entire region -- but so was Libya.

Which is in North Africa, where the Christians were kidnapped.

didn't appear until Iraq 2003- & American run detention facilities are great for recruiting. Al-Baghdadi got a lot of his initial recruits inside, they also target & recruit Guantanamo & Bagram releases.

CIA installed Al-Maliki as Prime Minister who brutally oppressed Sunni (& Kurds) citizens & elected officials. Also Shia militias
(they don't get as much press they are indiscriminate kill, slaughter Sunnis, & like the ISIS group have been involved in tit-for-tat kidnapping going back years (for profit -- different kind than the propaganda ISIS kidnappings/ransom demands--unrealistic or handled in a way) so basically you have one half of the Northern population that doesn't view the new government as legitimate, also a brutal dictator combined with the multiple revolutions.

The "Sunni Awakening" was made possible because ISIS started making the mistakes the US troops did, indiscriminately targeted & killing civilians causing them to fight & join our side but now that they fought for the country that now oppresses them (most of them are refugees -- in Turkey traveling to Kosovo through Serbia trying to get to Hungary. Basically somewhere to survive) but those who are left our stuck between oppressive heads of states (too soon to say what the new Iraq PM is like but Sunnis have already stopped viewing it as legitimate. Oppressive Shia militia - Iraq Army. What US troops may do, bombs.

I think thanks Bush is appropriate but either the US is very naive or ignorant or they know (& obviously tried to hide) petrodollars made off oil transactions involving Wahabbis funnel it to Wahabbi cults & a war will certainly mean more business for the Wahabbi heads of state cults so I wonder are we spreading in on purpose?

Follow the money not only applies to drugs. If you really want to go some interesting places follow the oil money. One odd thing, most of the Shale gas produced here is exported, by far most of it. However, most of our imports comes from Shale gas from Canada. The other half is rounded out by Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Mexico, & handful of limited shares.

Saying that Bush's actions are responsible for ISIS not only ignores anything that occurred over the past 6 years (or puts responsibility for all of those actions on Bush but not on anyone else). Moreover, it begs the question of what caused Bush to act. The short, simplistic answer is 9/11. But what "caused" 9/11? Well, you can start down that road, but pretty soon you're a thousand or more years out in time.

From my perspective, "thanks" for ISIS' killing rampage belongs on ISIS. Period.

“[W]e will not be intimidated. Their horrific acts only unite us as a country and stiffen our resolve to take the fight against these terrorists.’

Saying that the mission would “take some time but it is going to get done,” the president added:

“The bottom line is this: Our objective is clear and that is to degrade and destroy ISIL so it is no longer a threat.”

"ISIS is growing in strength. It has money, it has organization, it has the capacity to inflict real damage. So when we think about a response we have to think about how to destroy that," Warren told Yahoo's Katie Couric.
Warren agreed that "time is of the essence."

"We need to be working now, full-speed ahead, with other countries, to destroy ISIS. That should be our No. 1 priority," she said in a wide-ranging interview promoting her latest book, A Fighting Chance.

The US has to declare war on the Muslim world, defeat them all, and convert them to Christianity. Rightwing, Protestant Christianity.

Never mind the cost in blood and treasure. Never mind that catching AQ, or the Taliban, or ISIS, or whothefuckever has been nigh-impossible. If we spend enough money - and blood - we can finally win the Middle-East/Central-Asia/Muslim/terrorist game of Whack-a-Mole.

Hey, if we just try harder, we can make it work.

Somehow.....

Mystery Over 15th-Century Drilled Skull Solved
They all met their ends on Aug. 14, 1480, following a 15-day siege by the Ottoman force commanded by Gedik Ahmed Pasha. During the assault, all Otranto men over the age of 50 were slaughtered, while women and children under the age of 15 were either slain or sold into Albanian slavery.

The remaining men, including more than 800 exhausted survivors, were told to convert to Islam. As they refused, they were taken to a hill and beheaded one by one.

ISIS needs to be taken down with great prejudice.

ISIS will neither negotiate nor capitulate. They are not going to be content to play their bloody games in their own backyard.

Where is a Roosevelt when we need one?

and the example below wasn't the only place I was told this, just the easiest to find. It goes to some of us taking issue with the Crusades-slavery comment in the POTUS' prayer breakfast speech last week, and being jumped on all over for it here, see any of those related threads for more of the same kind of denial; links to some of them are in the thread below:

...

As to the President's statement giving ISIS a "blank check," somehow I don't think ISIS fighters are exactly sitting around planning their next move based on whether or not the President reminds a group of American Christians about the fact that Christians, too, have used religion to justify violence.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10026195058#post48

My reply to the post above, same thread, just below it:

...

Btw, if you think that ISIS isn't going to use the President's words then I think you're very naive. But we will see. It's a chance he didn't have to take.

I also wouldn't bet on the Crusades not coming up any more in the future. I expect to see it used by ISIS on a regular basis.

This is why an atrocity in the news shouldn't be used as an opportunity to self-flagellate for cheap political points, as the POTUS did, because of the "bully pulpit" he has which reaches around the world.

(This isn't news to you, B2G, it's more for those who don't remember the controversy here last week, or who may have missed it.)
