Here's my theory. Pick it apart:
1) He confronted EVERYBODY in the condominium complex over parking. Nobody was left out. Every resident experienced his special version of assholery.
2) He discovered these kids are Muslims (because the fiance/later wife and her sister wear hajibs). This results in special targeting for additional harassment and hatred.
3) it ends in a hate filled mass execution of these three young beautiful people, all because they were Muslim and thus easy targets.
Furthermore, I have one additional theory.
This asshole believes he will never be convicted by any jury in North Carolina. He believes at best, every potential jury will be hung.
I hope North Carolina proves this asshole wrong.

(111,339 posts)They committed the outrageous affront to his dignity by being Muslims with bright futures.
He was a pretty sickening stew of inferiority, envy, ignorance, and rage. I wish we could put whoever sold him all those guns on trial with him.

(15,429 posts)This was nothing more than a modern lynching of Muslims instead of black men.

As it should be.

(15,429 posts)I'm just trying to get into the mind of this asshole.
Plus we have to remember, it only takes one person in twelve to hang a jury, and if one in twelve people on a jury is anti-Muslim, the jury could be easily hung.

(21,786 posts)I rather suspect that while he was an asshole to everyone he was more of an asshole to these people in particular. It doesn't seem at all contradictory to me that someone can be a generally misanthropic and miserable person and more prejudiced against a particular subset of people than they are humanity in general.

It will be interesting to see though whether his attorney tries to have the trial moved
out of Durham (presumably it will be in Durham County since that technically
is where the murders occurred even though Chapel Hill is in Orange County).
Both counties are among the most liberal in the state.
