I cannot find this anywhere but http://www.dutchnews.nl and I thought that I might share it.
It appears that the Dutch Politie shot and killed ZERO people last year, even though they encountered 33 "serious" shooting incidents! This could be due to the fact that the police in the Netherlands consider shooting as the absolute last resort, and even a failure of their institution. In the past 5 years there have been 158 serious shooting incidents, and only 28 people shot dead.
I think that the US police agencies could learn a lesson from this crew!
A link to the only story (with a link within to the actual police report in Dutch) can be found at http://www.dutchnews.nl/news/archives/2015/02/no-one-shot-dead-by-dutch-police-last-year/
The final paragraph of the report from the Public Prosecutor of the Netherlands states:
"Forms of aggression and intimidation questions in society to appropriate enforcement action by police officers. Research on use of force by police officers with serious consequences should be carried out carefully and objectively. This is of great importance both for victims and survivors, as well as the police officers involved. Moreover, it is essential for the confidence of the society in a just and honest government police."
This statement blew me away! I don't think we will ever see it in the US.
