Chapel Hill Victim’s Sister: ‘Insulting and Outrageous’ to Call Shooting ‘Parking Dispute’

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/chapel-hill-victims-sister-insulting-and-outrageous-to-call-shooting-parking-dispute/

Dr. Suzanne Barakat, sister of one of the Chapel Hill shooting victims, appeared on Morning Joe Friday morning to strongly dispute the early police theory that her brother, his wife, and sister-in-law were shot by Craig Stephens Hicks over a “parking dispute.” That all three victims were Muslim, and that Hicks had loudly proclaimed anti-religious sentiment, has led many to label the triple murder a hate crime.

“I think it’s absolutely insulting, insensitive and outrageous that the first thing they come out and say and issue a statement that this is a parking dispute,” Barakat said. “I’m not sure who they spoke to, because it took me all of five minutes of talking to his former roommate — who they had not reached out to — to give me details, information, text messages, and to give me context.”

Barakat disputed that any of the three had even parked in the disputed spot, arguing, “To call it a parking dispute…is to trivialize their murders.”

“I have been here since the morning after this shooting,” Barakat added, “and police have still not reached out to my family.”

There was no need to interview anyone as far as they were concerned.

The darker skinned people just had to be at fault.

say that his son in law looked white and never had a problem with Hick until he married his daughter (who was visibly Muslim by dress).

It was a hate crime.

You and your wife are wise to question the mass media, they have fallen behind the social news media, clear enough.

Wait until the evidence is in!!!! Wait! Don't turn into a lynch mob. Wait. If the evidence shows it was a hate crime prosecute it. Do NOT take the bait of a hate crime until the evidence is in. Critical thinking skills are necessary.

22. Jake Tapper of CNN interviewed the sister on his show today.

CNN isn't popular here, but in my estimation, Tapper is the best of the bunch. The young woman was obviously very distressed, and Tapper let her tell her story as she wished except for two interruptions. About half way through, he asked her if she had any information about how Hicks had acted before the murders that would point to the victims's Muslim religion as being the motive. He asked the same question at the end. The sister had no information that would show Hicks's motive other than the fact that the two women wore the jihab. For some people, that's enough evidence, and it very well could be that this guy has a problem with Muslims.

The FBI, however, will be looking for communications from Hicks to the deceased or anyone else about their religion or mode of dress before the FBI will declare this to be a hate crime in addition to a terrible murder. Hicks may turn out to be a virulent muslim hater or he may turn out to be an equal opportunity despicable killer. I look forward to the FBI's investigation.

It's going to be life in prison (or maybe a mental hospital) or death row for this guy, no matter what.

Hate crime charges are often brought because the locals aren't moving criminal charges against the perp, or the perp has been exonerated when the evidence produced in court point the other way.

That's why the hate crime investigations were important in the Zimmerman and Brown cases. Hate crime cases are difficult to prove and very few result in convictions, as you can see.

Hicks will be prosecuted for a triple murder, probably 2d degree or its equivalent. I find it difficult to believe that a research triangle jury is going to find Hicks innocent here. If for some chance Hicks walks, the hate crime charges will become important.

So,yeah, I'm willing to wait.

A triple homicide parking dispute? At the very least, investigators have got to begin by having reasonable suspicions that religion and race entered into the equation. If the facts take them elsewhere, fine, but failing to interview key witnesses who can shed light on this... yikes.

Glad to see the feds getting involved. The police, once again, seem incapable.

Trayvon, Ferguson, so many others. Epidemic racism & violence. And we read of elites buying airstrips and ranches in New Zealand now, you know b/c of 'Ferguson, London 2011' they say- running from the problems they helped create, profited from & now leave. That's desertion, abandonment in any book or code.

It seems the strategy of the propagandists is to race to the media and plant their false version before any facts come out. Timing is a critical element in the coverup and media whitewash.

I don't know how to combat this, but getting the correct story out immediately, if possible, is an essential defense to this type of media manipulation.
