HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Firefighters are battling a fire at an Islamic institute located off FM 1959 at Gulfstream in southeast Houston.

HFD was called out to the scene about 5:40am this morning. Crews found flames coming from a building metal building.

Video from Skyeye HD shows flames filling the one story structure as fire crews work to get water on the blaze.

HOUSTON – The Houston Fire Department responded to a one-alarm fire on the grounds of the Quba Islamic Institute early Friday.

Those who attend the church and school said the building was just purchased and was intended to be used as a family center. No injuries were reported, but the building was a complete loss.

HFD arson investigators are looking into a cause for the fire.

Imam Zahid Abdullah says just Wednesday morning, he saw a suspicious man walking on the property, and then last night...

"My son was passing by here and somebody was sitting here in a white Ram, making mockery, chanting," said Abdullah.

Still, each person we talked to says they want to hear what investigators find in that damaged building.

"We don't want to blame anyone," said Saadeh. "We want a full investigation of what is going on."
