AFSCME - A Grand Alliance to Save Our Public Postal Service

AFSCME is proud to join with more than 60 national organizations forming *A Grand Alliance to Save Our Public Postal Service*

The United States Postal Service is a national treasure, serving more than 150 million households and businesses each day. It provides affordable mail service to everyone – rich and poor, no matter how remotely located they might be.

But that tremendous service to our communities and crucial postal jobs are threatened by those who want to profit from this great public institution being dismantled.

*You can make a difference right now. Please sign the pledge to protect the public Postal Service http://agrandalliance.org/ .* You'll be part of the fight to protect and enhance vibrant public postal services now and for many generations to come.

*Please take two minutes to watch this **video*

&feature=youtu.be * starring actor-activist Danny Glover sharing his personal story about the importance of the Postal Service*.

Then share the video and the Grand Alliance statement on

The postal service is an important feature of free expression and the flow of information. Founders realized it so much it's mandated in the US Constitution (Art I, Sec 8). Congress has been trying to kill it for years, starting w/ ridiculous 75-year pension plan that no responsible business would accept. But the USPS had to because Confress said so, tho it uses no tax money to operate.

BTW, UPS is thinking about charging extra f/ delivering packages.

It's a tale of "The Post Office" v. "Wal-Mart", the two largest civilian employers in the United States with two diverse business models: one that provides nearly 600,000 jobs, whose workforce includes many veterans, offers their employees living wages and benefits for their 600,000 employees and requires zero federal subsidies;  the other, a corporate model that pays an average wage half that of the Post Office, has become a welfare queen for federal subsides and has resulted in the wealth of the six individuals, heirs of the Wal-Mart empire, in a bounty equivalent to the entire bottom 43% of our entire nation.
