Happy Birthday Mr. President...

Abe Lincoln.

I'm of the old school and still remember the Presidents' real birthdates. Now that I'm 67 I realize how young President Lincoln was when he was asassinated. Born in 1809....only 56 years old.

Sad. Not even the car dealers offering Lincoln Day savings!

Very prescient today is that we should remember that the assassination was soon followed ny the demise of the "greenbacks"....Abe tried.

shopping weekend of commercialism just eviscerates their honor and memory. A real shame like Christmas, Easter, Memorial, Labor Day. The movie 'Lincoln' last year should have fostered interest. I know Alexandria, VA makes a huge affair of GW's Birthnight Balls in Old Town b/c he and citizens really did celebrate during his life (Mount Vernon is 6 mi away). For years I worked at a Union Civil War museum and one of 'Mr. Lincoln's Forts', a network of over 100 Civil War earthwork forts and batteries surrounding WDC built in 1861 by Union engineer, 'Little Mac', Gen. McClellan.
