"Who gets this land we take from the dead guys?"--Chris Matthews just now on Hardball.

Coarsely worded, but I had the thought that ISIS may be able to be defeated, but then what?
Any thoughts? Who's gonna get what? The political solution may well be more difficult than the military one.

Shia need to stop harrassing and oppressing Sunnis. They all need to leave the Kurds alone. There, I just solved Iraq. Syria--that's a lot harder.

Assad takes his upscale wife and moves to Switzerland where they can spend all their time browsing the luxury boutiques and parading their sumptuous fortunes. Without the dictator, Syria partitions itself if necessary and adopts democratic elections with international monitors. Everybody learns to live with the results or move elsewhere, all living happily ever after.

You're welcome.

and hopefully someone not-loony steps in and deals with the aftermath. That would be the best-case scenario.
