It was only a matter of time...

It's completely outrageous someone from Puerto Rico won the powerball, thought this was America!

As Latino Rebels first pointed out, the news brought out Twitter responses such as "I thought this was America!" and others with language too offensive to print, but including "How is the place that doesn't even pay taxes eligible for powerball? "
So we all spent money to buy powerball tickets in America and someone in Puerto Rico won it....what is wrong with that picture?

Of course, it is NBC News.

(14,733 posts)Ignoring the fact that PR is a US 'commonwealth', is there any rule that says 'you must be a citizen' to buy a powerball ticket? What if some British tourist had won? Or a German, or a Thai, or even a bloody North Korean?
You buy a ticket, you get a chance to win. The powerball money comes from people buying tickets, not from 'taxes'.

(5,356 posts)...for failing to teach geography, and that Puerto Rico is part of USA. But these twit-holes would complain anyway.

(2,273 posts)Their first mistake was thinking that Puerto Rico is not part of America, even if Puerto Rico was not part of the United States it would still be part of America, it's not like we can just ship it's ass off to Europe, Asia, Africa or Antarctica. Their second mistake was well Puerto Rico is part of the United States, it's just not a fucking State. It's why I can go there without needing a passport.
