THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
President Obama said Wednesday that the Ebola battle will continue, through monitoring arrivals from affected countries and bolstering U.S. hospitals ability to handle Ebola patients. With the president are military and other government officials involved in the fight and Ebola survivors, including Dr. Rick Sacra, top left, who was treated at the Nebraska Medical Center.

WASHINGTON Nebraskas Ebola fighters were recognized Wednesday by President Barack Obama, who praised the work of those who have responded to the outbreak and touted progress in battling the disease.
Now is a time of transition in the fight against Ebola, he said, one that includes the return of U.S. troops who went to West Africa to help there.
About 9,000 have died from the outbreak in West Africa. But the White House said new cases have declined from more than 1,000 per week in October to about 150 per week.
While our troops are coming home, Americas work is not done, Obama said. Our mission is not complete. Today, we move into the next phase of the fight, winding down our military response while expanding our civilian response. That starts here at home, where were more prepared to protect Americans from infectious disease but still have more work to do. For as long as Ebola simmers anywhere in the world, we will have some Ebola-fighting heroes who are coming back home with the disease from time to time.

(83,825 posts)1. Good work Nebraska!
So glad that The President acknowledged their work, Steve.
It is apparent they take their job seriously, they will continue to be vigilant.
As the Nebraska group was leaving, Smith stressed that the threats from disease outbreaks are not gone.
Weve turned a corner (but) its not over, Smith said. I think we need to be aware that Ebola itself is not done and it has a history of coming back, and there are other diseases that we are worried about too. So we cant just stop and say were done and relax. We need to be using our biocontainment unit to be planning for multiple different diseases.
