(CNN) - Same-sex marriage became legal in Alabama on Monday, but some gay couples remain in limbo.
Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore issued an order forbidding probate judges from issuing marriage licenses to gay couples despite the federal ruling, effectively throwing the state into judicial chaos.
Moore talked with CNN's Chris Cuomo on Thursday.
"I think that gay marriage is an alteration of the definition of marriage, and the United States Supreme Court does not have the authority, or the federal courts do not have the authority, to interpret a word that disputes the Constitution," Moore said.

(39,215 posts)church and still be legal. The only time the church has anything to say about it is when the wedding is being held in a church. And then it is only about the wedding. Some churches also require marriage counseling before the wedding and many only allow members to be wed in the church. But these are not government laws. They are church laws.
So you are wrong. The SCOTUS has spoken. You know - Supreme as in the highest court in our country.
