Bob Simon, '60 Minutes' correspondent, killed in crash on West Side Highway

Bob Simon, a correspondent for "60 Minutes," was killed when the livery cab he was a passenger in crashed on the West Side Highway on Wednesday night, a police source said.

The 73-year-old reporter was a passenger in the livery cab traveling south on 12th Ave. at W. 30 St. when the car rear-ended a Mercedes-Benz driven by a 23-year-old man and then slammed into a median.

Both the driver and Simon had to be cut out of the car, police said.

Simon, 73, was a correspondent for CBS news show "60 Minutes."
The veteran CBS reporter was rushed to St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital, where he died, a police source

Everyone else not seriously injured. I wonder if he had a seat belt on in the back of the limo.

Sad either way.

On the fifth day of the Persian Gulf War, Simon and a CBS News crew broke away from the heavily controlled government pools of reporters and stepped across a deserted border line between Saudi Arabia and Iraqi-occupied Kuwait.

Was even a POW for a few weeks in Iraq. Unlike Bill "The Liar" O'Lielly, he was a real journalist.

in an era where some news media figures are about being sensations ... Simon seemed old school journalism. Get the story (don't be the story, don't create stories to be propaganda.) Condolences to his family, to his friends, and to those his life touched.
