WSJ Says Republican Congress is Failing (updated)

Senator McConnell is not going to let the February deadline pass and allow DHS to shut down. It sounds like he still hasn't outlined a plan to avoid that. But whatever it turns out to be, he (like Boehner so often has done) will have to rely on what President Obama called a "common sense caucus" facilitated by a compromise with Democrats.

That will only further outrage the lunatic caucus - who will ramp up their challenges during the next round. Rinse and Repeat.

snip

UPDATE: Apparently Republicans are willing to sink even deeper into failure with McConnell and Boehner actually engaging in finger-pointing.

"I think it'd be pretty safe to say we're stuck, because of Democratic obstruction on the Senate side," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) told reporters Tuesday. "I think it's clear we can't go forward in the Senate. And so the next move, obviously, is up to the House."

Translation: The ball is back in the House's court.

That's not sitting well with Speaker John Boehner. The Ohio Republican is standing by the House-passed DHS funding bill and his office responded to McConnell by saying Tuesday there's "little point" in further House action until there's movement in the Senate.

If that's what Republicans are calling leadership at this point, they're in even worse trouble that I thought.

They're PROUD of the stupid. They're the ones with the virtual mimeograph machine minds - "I'm not a scientist..." notice how fast and prolifically that one's gotten around?

And they still really have no intention of or real interest in "governing." It's against their "gummnt BAAAAAD" philosophy! So I doubt the situation is going to improve much from here. First, you have to admit you made a mistake. They can't do that. Not possible. Not in their DNA. There's no way on earth that they can logically or realistically govern - to use government as an instrument of social benefit, to help people, to solve problems that affect the greatest numbers of people - because the very foundation of their cockeyed belief system is that government is in the way, too meddlesome, and should be dismantled. So it just can't be done.

I expect very little out of this bunch of nincompoops. And they break up too easily into little pockets of agendas and sub-agendas, and they're too busy quibbling among themselves to get anything done anyway. Hell, with all that stonewalling and obstructing and heel-dragging and bullshitting and saying "no" all the time, they've probably forgotten how to get anything done!

I give 'em two years max. Especially with the presidential election cycle that's next up - in which Democrats always more reliably turn out to vote. Hey mitch - don't get too comfy. Don't get too used to that Majority Leader's office or any of the trappings. You're going to be moving back out of there in another year-and-a-half or so.

Enough Republicans switch parties (temporarily?) to get DHS spending back up and then switch back to the GOP (maybe not?).

Either way, the Republican party is in a nasty place right now.

"Okay senator please wipe the snot off your face and clean up some, the training potty is on it's way."

Seriously sheshe2 I am going to enjoy these last two years of Obama's administration watching with glee as the Democratic Party unload decades of pent up frustration onto the GOP. They need to be the brand they are destined to be - yappy, back stabbing, lying, superficial cowards that have the thinnest skins and the worst tempers.

I hope HRC keeps it up in 2016 and we finally dump the decades of 'dumb and waste' onto the GOPs head. Forever. HRC is not my first pic, but I can see her totally demolishing the GOP for 8 years. You think she might still be mad at their smear campaigns against her husband? I bet she has evil wicked plans for all those assholes.

Richard Belzer (stand-up comic - Munch) once hosted an HBO special during the time Raygun (all hail to the FATHER!!!!) was president. Raygun had just gotten out of the hospital and had been diagnosed with skin cancer on his nose, which followed a round of colon cancer.
Belzer said, "Well, I guess we know where Reagan goes to think!"

Securing American citizens (purpose of HLS), not important.

Scolding to shrieking outlandishly (per Morning Joe) about Obama not caring about the security of Israelis (the shaming attempt to "put the Obama Administration in its place&quot by not being present for the Netanyahu speech is important.

Rather a poor first set of steps, strategically, for Boehner and the new Congress and Senate.
