In fact, if one wants to learn how to think accurately, the best way to do so is by practicing accurate thought

It can be very difficult to explain exactly what is wrong about most of the so-called "fallacies," since many of them can sometimes lead to entirely justifiable conclusions.

"We don't know that President Carter is dead so we should assume he's still alive" is actually a pretty good argument, even though it's an example of appeal to ignorance

"You shouldn't point a gun at your baby brother's head and pull the trigger, because you could blow his brains out" is also a pretty good argument, even though it's an example of appeal to consequences

And "Everybody, who I've asked, says Fred is mayor" is a pretty good argument that Fred is mayor, even though it's an example of
ad populum
