It was the Iraq war that created ISIS and the media conveniently ignores that point to help keep Americans dumb

(39,215 posts)is what the Constitution calls for. He is asking for Congress to take a stand just like FDR did after Pearl Harbor. It is the Congresses job. He is using bushies old permission slip while this Congress sets back on their heels and watches.
As to what I want them to authorize. I want specific actions and time limits not unlimited power. He can always come back to them for more if it is justified.
Unlimited power to wage war? Never.

(2,097 posts)Two things are important to remember here:
1) Obama, to his credit, is asking for an AUMF (as jwirr points out). But,
2) We've been fighting ISIS for 6 months without an AUMF. And Obama has made it clear that, while he considers it Congress' job to authorize military force, he's prepared to pursue this war with or without Congress, stretching the 2001 AUMF beyond any original intention.
Obama's message to Congress has been: I'm doing this; it sure would be nice if you said okay, but I'm doing it regardless. Congress needs to step up, not because our president needs them but because we need them to rein in the imperial presidency regardless of who is living in the White House.

He's breaking that "No Ringy Dingy Rule".
Btw, if anyone has any idea which detergent these guys use on their clothes, please clue me in because I've become disastisfied with mine, and I'm willing to give theirs a try. The "Colors look brighter & the Whites look whiter".
