(2,382 posts)I think one of the most magnificent pieces she ever sang was "Into the West" at the end of "Lord of the Rings-Return of the King." I'm a cynical old bastard, but that song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. And, yes, I am an LOTR fanatic! Peter Jackson RULES!

(2,389 posts)If you'll recall your music history, Eurythmics' heyday was during the entire 1980's. Their New Wave period was during the early 1980's, and they progressed to a more traditional rock sound in the late 1980's. That's when we Gen X'ers were the teens/twentysomethings buying their albums.
During that time, you boomers were still clinging to your Beatles records and telling us that New Wave was garbage.
And before you trash the millennials, there are plenty of wonderful vocalists in current pop music. If you haven't heard them, it's because you're not trying to find them.
So please refrain from spewing ageist bigotry. Every generation has incredible talent.
Oh please. I have been a fan of the Eurythmics for years. No, I wasn't clinging to the Beatles. Hell, I don't even listen to the Beatles now. I was a big new wave fan, and then a fan of punk. I was 22 in 1980 and am not considered part of Gen X.

(904 posts)neither were my friends, we were all in our mid 20's back in early 80's and we loved Annie Lennox. That was the beginning of MTV and a whole new music scene was on the horizon that transcended generations. Music that was also becoming part of the soundtracks of TV, movies, commercials, you couldn't escape it. So while my generations may have still loved the Beatles, we were heavy into the current music trends.

(65,212 posts)I'm 58 so a boomer. I played new wave music in bands because some needed a jangly guitar and lots other songs NEEDED keyboards.
A singing, guitar playing keyboard player with synthesizers could write his own ticket if you did new wave. So, i never said anything bad about New Wave.
And, there's nothing wrong with clinging onto Beatles albuims. Sine qua non.

(1,245 posts)I highly recommend everyone check it out if you like late 60's-70's rock ... in fact, it sounds VERY much like The Byrds and Pink Floyd (I should stipulate it's more the style of the older David Gilmour-sung Pink Floyd, rather than later Roger Waters-sung/dominated Pink Floyd).
It doesn't have the epic sprawl of some Floyd tracks, nor Waters' bile, but if an album of tunes along the lines of Breathe, Us and Them, Wish You Were Here, and Goodbye Blue Sky appeals to you at all ... you should love Morning Phase. For ONCE, (arguably) the best Rock Album of the Year actually WON the Grammy for 'Best Rock Album'.
Well, TBH I'd probably have given it to War on Drugs or Spoon, myself, but I can't complain at all about MP winning. Still among my 3 faves from last year.
Edit: now that I read the details of his comments post-awards, I'm becoming pretty convinced that his rants are a roundabout way of saying ... the brother's and sister's in the industry be gettin' sick and TIRED ... of whitey winning all the damn Grammy's ... and they'll soon be boycotting if they don't start getting their due.
