Spongebob Unseats American Sniper at Top of U.S. Box Office


The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water earned an estimated $52 million in theaters over its opening weekend, easily enough to finish atop the domestic box office.

The animated Nickelodeon-Paramount joint venture based on the popular animated series unseated American Sniper, which brought in $23 million in its fourth week of wide release, as the top earner. Oscar contender American Sniper now has total domestic earnings that are expected to exceed $280 million.

My wife and I were joking about how many stoners we would see at the matinee. We didn't see it at the theater we often go to downtown which may have diminished the pool of stoners. My wife and I and the other parent in the group laughed harder and more than the kids - and we aren't stoners.

The scene with Plankton IN Spongebob's brain had us howling with laughter.

That series was screwed over by the network so many times.

"Hey, guess what? We want a second season. Sorry we didn't tell you sooner."
"Hey, guess what? We're moving Legend of Korra online half-way through the season. No fanfare or commercials to tell the audience"
