Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) is putting his muscle into reaching a deal on trade with President Obama.
The new chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee is speaking about the trade agenda on an almost daily basis, and sending the signal that the White House and congressional Republicans can reach an agreement to approve fast-track negotiating authority, which would speed the consideration of two pending trade deals.
Completing these trade deals is my No. 1 priority, Ryan said Thursday at a Washington International Trade Association event in Washington.
Along with Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-Ohio), the chairman of the subcommittee on Trade Chairman Pat Tiberi (R-Ohio), Ryan plans to hold dozens of meetings with members of his own party to build support for the agenda.
While Democrats are more divided on fast-track and Ryan has argued that Obama must deliver support from his own party the Ways and Means chairman is also focused on producing Republican votes.

(12,647 posts)Definitely call you Congressmen and Senators, Democrat and Republican, and ask them to vote no on Fast Tracking this hideous Bill through. The idea of Obama and Ryan teaming up to "whip" the Congress just as he did with Jamie Dimon, makes my skin crawl. This year it's TPP, next year they can expect a "whipping" for Chained CPI.

2. Many of these third parties have goals and ideals in opposition to the traditional goals of the Democratic Party.
People will hopefully have the choice in 2016 of supporting Bernie Sanders. We shall see if the People actually like his message.

(14,524 posts)... that 3rd party candidates "can't win," it is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Tell Jesse Ventura it's impossible to win as a 3rd party candidate.
And quite frankly, voting my true beliefs, ethics, and conscience, is far more important to me than being on the "winning blue or red team."

(12,647 posts)They just happen to control the Democratic party, and are more than willing to pass this corporate wet-dream of a Bill with the Republicans help.

(5,364 posts)Funny how the GOP was the party of "no" and obstruction, unabashed favoring of capital over labor.... but on this one issue they agree with the president. That should be reason enough to torpedo the TPP turd where it floats.

(6,145 posts)It's also the number one priority of the US chamber of commerce and 600 transnational corporations who are crafting it in secret.
They all say it's in the public interest and Paul Ryan would NEVER lie.
