The real shame of network broadcast reporters

Brian Williams is taking some time off because he embellished a story to make him heroic. The real shame that he and all MSM reporters should bear is their role in selling an illegal war in Iraq which cost thousands of Americans, not their reputation, but their lives.

Yes, they are liars propagandizing us into bloody war for profit. And they are liars by omission, as well.

Still waiting for stories about the surveillance state, the destruction of our Bill of Rights, the assault on journalism, the collusion of the parties, Wall Street in our government, MIC profiteering, Obama and Hillary's bipartisan-approved TPP, a mammoth, vicious, predatory, corporate coup of democracy:

Last week when I read about Tom Brokaw commenting on the Brian Williams situation, I wondered when Brokaw was going to own up to his role in pounding out the drumbeat to Iraq. Except for Phil Donahue and a few others, MSMers are hypocrites IMO.

Is anybody surprised that news, faux or otherwise, root, root, root for war. 24-7 war sells like nothing else. There is a reason for the old journalistic adage, "if it bleeds it leads". Nothing bleeds like war footage and the attendant atrocities that always accompany revenge. Bottom line is news corps are in it for the money, not to accurately inform. At least not anymore. Maybe once upon a time honesty and shame prevented extreme distortion but that seems almost like another, fictional, era. Lying has become the new truth, consequences be damned. Not going to make enough money this quarter? Fan the flames of war, hype aluminum tube lies. It's easy once you get past the unpalatable notion that soldiers will die. But who is really concerned about a few thousand under educated wanna be heroes. Wanna go kill some other skinned folk? Try the Gulf of Tonkin tactic. Just make sure you don't piss off someone who can really fight back, or who you owe a lot of money to. Anyone really want to get into it with China? I'll bet at least a few news organizations do.

but not true that all MSM reporters were selling the Iraq war. Though probably those MSM reporters seriously questioning the case for war were so few in number, they might well be the exception that proves the rule. But anyway I thought they deserve a shout-out.

The Reporting Team That Got Iraq Right
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/03/17/the-reporting-team-that-g_n_91981.html

In the months before the U.S. invasion of Iraq, the reporters in the Knight Ridder Newspapers Washington D.C. bureau were virtually alone in their questioning of the Bush Administration's allegations of links between Saddam Hussein, weapons of mass destruction and international terrorism. The team of Knight Ridder reporters, led by Jonathan Landay, Warren Strobel, John Walcott and Joe Galloway, produced stories that now read like a prescient accounting of how the Bush Administration sought to sell the war to the American people. Walcott and Landay spoke with The Huffington Post about the fifth anniversary of the war. Knight Ridder Newspapers has since merged with McClatchy Newspapers. You can read the entire Knight Ridder and McClatchy archives of their Iraq intelligence reporting by clicking here ( http://www.mcclatchydc.com/reports/intelligence/ ) .

I was in the belly of the beast and I saw and heard the dirty business 1st hand ....
BTW that was when i found DU ...... and it really made me crazy for years and
kept waiting and waiting for the real story to come out and yet it never did and
our "liberal media" pushed the lie that w bush beat Kerry in Ohio even though the
exit polls showed w/out a doubt that Kerry won.

I testified at a public hearing and watched hundreds of people get up and speak about
votes being flipped, their registrations disapearing when the went to sign in at the
polls, hours long lines, voting machines going bad, phone hacks, "the mighty texas
strike force, and tons of other "glitches" and we had both national and local media
there and yet it only made pg. 10 for 2 paragraphs in the Columbus, Dispatch.

And don't get me started on w's "Prairie Chapel Ranch" which the media never pointed out
was a converted pig farm for photo opps and the cattle were rentals.

According to the latest advertisements promoted on free air television by the American Legion in my area they declare and solicit money for veterans of the Gulf, Iraq wars , and perhaps some Vietnam veterans are out there also with post-traumatic stress needing help.

The insanity is in modern news Journalism that the one percent have given America. It is exampled in obnoxious ways especially by the lies in political advertisements. I used to think it is simple shame, no it’s more than that, it is a cultural, business, political, leadership catastrophe.

What America is dealing with is an obnoxious culture of liar’s cheaters, swindlers, and just plain politically specialized crooks. To quote George Bush “America is resilient”.

That frame of reference only suggests and points to what Americans should realize is Bush and Cheney, where they did what they did and will do it again, will let Americans suffer in the balance of any of those Republican decisions all the while his family and friends profiteer to incredible wealth.

The irony is his friends are the Bin Laden’s, the very Isis or Bush calls them Al Qaeda. These political people should have their wealth confiscated to be distributed to veterans, plus this family should be banished from American soil.
