Item 1:Mike Huckabee appeared last week on Dave Garrisons Faith & Liberty radio show, where he spoke about his new book, God, Guns, Grits and Gravy. Garrison told Huckabee that he was upset about how Right Wing Watch and others covered remarks that Michele Bachmann made on his show accusing gay people of seeking to freely prey on little children sexually, pointing to it as proof of growing intolerance among gay rights supporters.
The former Arkansas governor said that if he were elected president, he would use his bully pulpit to promote opposition to marriage equality, just as President Obama became the leader cheerleader for gay rights.
Even though he didnt call the family of Chris Kyle, the American Sniper, when he was killed for all he had done for his country, he picks up the phone and calls an NFL football player and congratulates him for being homosexual, he said. How bizarre is that?
Since the president came out, so to speak, you see court after court suddenly deciding that same-sex marriage is just fine; Im convinced that its the president having given this legitimacy and sense of authority to the issue that has changed the debate, he added, before once again claiming that governors and legislators can simply refuse to enforce federal court rulings on marriage equality.

Item 2
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins invited his colleague Peter Sprigg on to Washington Watch yesterday to discuss an Idaho state legislative committees decision not to include protections for LGBT people in a proposed nondiscrimination law.
Sprigg who travelled to Idaho earlier this week to testify against the measure celebrated the decision, saying that banning employment and housing discrimination against LGBT people would increase the power of government to interfere with the operation of private businesses and private organizations and would place the government in the position of taking sides on a controversial issue. (We werent aware that the FRC opposed the government taking sides on controversial issues!)
Sprigg said that what the Idaho legislature should really do is remain morally neutral in order for the marketplace of ideas to sort out whether or not its okay to discriminate against LGBT people, rather than making a legal statement that it is morally wrong to disapprove of homosexual conduct and morally wrong to disapprove of people presenting themselves as the opposite of their biological sex.
Later in the program, Perkins took a call from a listener who complained that he had seen a picture on Facebook of two naked guys sitting on each other and that when he complained about it to Facebook in a nice, respectful, Christian way, he was treated like the biggest bigot out there.

Item 3
Earlier this month, a court ruled in favor of a man who had sued his employer, claiming that he was forced to retire when he refused to use a biometric scanning program that had been instituted to track employee attendance. The employee claimed that using the scanner was a violation of his religious beliefs because it was a "Mark of the Beast" and a jury agreed, awarding him $150,000 in damages.
Gordon Klingenshmitt, unsurprisingly, was elated by the ruling, saying on a recent "Pray in Jesus Name" program that, like the "Mark of the Beast" scanning requirement, not allowing Christian business owners to discriminate against gay customers is a sign of the End Times.
Citing Revelation 13:16, Klingenschmitt declared that Christian photographers, florists, and bakers are all being forced to take the Mark of the Beast and will eventually be required to denounce Christ entirely in order to even remain in business.
"That's just the camel's nose under the tent," he warned. "Eventually, it will end up requiring that you renounce Christ as a condition of remaining employed":

(45,319 posts)speaking to Congress while Democrats cheer for his anti gay teachings. When he makes that speech if he does attack our rights any Democrat who sits there without booing or walking out will never, ever get my vote again. It is unacceptable, this constant stream of denigration and insults. Rick Warren was the last straw, Francis is the breaker of the camel's back. I will simply not support those who legitimize bigotry and those who teach prejudice all over the world.

(13,877 posts)respect rights for all. There are three manifestos of Christianity...The Ten Commandments, The Beatitudes and The Golden Rule. I find most who most profusely profess the religion fail miserably in word and deed.

(100,079 posts)Gay "economic terrorism". Yeah right. Charles and David Koch are the ones who are committing economic terrorism. Gay marriage actually puts money back into the economy.
Tony Perkins and Gordon Klingenschmitt are both certifiably insane too.

(53,959 posts)It is just many people don't give us a second thought. Sure, we have a few allies, and more GLBT who actually know the score, but when all is said and done; our lives are secondary to the issues of others.

(60,536 posts)many people don't give us a second thought. Usually articles related to gay issues sink like a stone in water. Oh, well. Not much can be done about that, I guess.

(53,959 posts)I try to kick as many as possible, even if I don't comment, but many aren't even reading the articles! I kicked one of William768's posts and it had 45 reads and was on page three (this was a few days ago)!! It wasn't posted in the asscrack of night either, right there in the middle of the day...and it garnered 45 reads, no comments, and ONE recommendation!

(60,536 posts)I've posted about six articles, four just today. And I usually post during the day, like William. This is the only thread anyone has commented in.
Now that I think of it, though, the news about Boehner and gay marriage, in LBN, has received some comments

(53,959 posts)What was worse is the defense just kept coming. I have seen it here before, usually not so "in your face" but there are more than a few on this side of the aisle who think the same way, even if most have learned not to be vocal about it. I know I refuse to be around children because of it.

(24,544 posts)We don't hear anything from this man for year and then BAM! First he rants about how the Obamas are terrible parents for letting their daughters listen to Beyoncé and now he's wetting his pants over gay marriage.
Though I truly do love with a CAPITAL L him giving the president all of that credit for helping get gay marriage passed in so many states.
Im convinced that its the president having given this legitimacy and sense of authority to the issue that has changed the debate
I'm sure the president and his supporters love that. All of these guys (Huckabee, Perkins etc.) need to go somewhere, sit down and stfu.

(45,319 posts)It's not all of a sudden, it's just that he usually attacks LBGT almost exclusively and lately he's added Beyonce and the Obamas so more people notice.

Historic Mike Huckabee speech against judicial supremacy
Mike Huckabee delivered the keynote address for the National Organization for Marriage rally at the National Capitol, on June 19, 2014. In the speech, the former Arkansas governor defended marriage and the constitutional separation of powers. Huckabee urged Americans to stand against judicial supremacy, and for their right to self-government under the United States Constitution.
