Enormous, Humongous Trade Deficits Widen, Further Exposing Failed Policy
In December the trade deficit in goods and services made its largest percentage jump in more than five years and the 2014 yearly total is its highest since 2012 which begs the question: Why is the Obama administration doubling down on the failed trade policies of its predecessors? ... Since the Korea Free Trade Agreement, our trade deficit with Korea has surged more than 80 percent, which equates to the loss of more than 70,000 U.S. jobs ... It's not a matter of 'failed policies'.
The wage superiority in the West was partly due to Chinese/indian isolationism of the 60's/70's.
No amount of political savvy will spare the US from some relative belt tightening.
The only failed policy is not holding corporations hiding profits in tax havens accountable.

Wall St. makes a bundle off of currency trading, a lot more than they make off of manufacturing or sales.

(3,660 posts)4. You mean the "enormous humongous" (aka typical) deficit that's same as in the pre-recession boom?
and much better than 2006-2010?
I can't be the only one laughing at the "worst since 2012" descriptor can I? When that means exactly the same as "up a bit from 2013"?
