Another Republican staffer has shown his true colors and been forced to resign in disgrace. It’s becoming a meme. This time it’s Benjamin Cole, senior aide to Rep. Aaron Schock (insert pun here) of Illinois. Cole is a racist who likes to post insensitive comments on his Facebook page, which also makes him an idiot. ABC has this:
Cole posted a series of videos and comments on October 13, 2013 mocking two African-Americans outside his apartment in Washington, DC, comparing them to zoo animals. About two months later, Cole took to Facebook to report witnessing a shooting of “one of the hood rats on my street” by “another hood rat.”
Buzzfeed also found a post from August 16, 2010 where Cole suggested that a mosque be built on the White House grounds to give President Obama a ‘house of worship.’
I’m surprised Cole didn’t use his zoo analogy for the President’s House of Worship. Dang, he’s a racist and not very clever or creative one at that.
What’s it been, two weeks since the GOP censured Michigan committeeman Dave Agema for referring to “filthy” homosexuals and supporting Russia’s anti-homosexual policies, questioning what Muslim Americans have contributed to society, and suggesting that his followers read white supremacist articles he called “very interesting” which claim that “blacks can’t conjugate verbs.”
The week before that it was House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R/LA), a self-proclaimed Klansman David Duke fan who twice voted against a Martin Luther King, Jr holiday. When a 2002 speech he gave to a white supremacist group surfaced last month, the GOP standard bearers didn’t even bat a lily-white eyelash.
It’s like the GOP is regressing into the racist attitudes of the Barry Goldwater days. It’s almost as if these pasty white men don’t even acknowledge the Civil Rights movement. Dr. King could deliver the same speeches today and they would be just as relevant as they were almost 50years ago.
And yet, they swept the November elections and are poised to place one of their pasty white ilk in the Oval Office in 2016. The message is clear – they don’t care about minority voters and don’t think they need to represent them in Washington.
Again, will we ever learn?
