Keep it 100

Today's "Keep it 100" question is:

You will receive a check for $2,000,000 if you go on the Sean Hannity show and advocate on behalf of Rick Perry's presidential campaign...After you do the one appearance you dont have to do another thing but you cant denounce him publicly or publicly explain that you didnt mean to do that

Do you do it?

believe me in the first place? If I say nothing more, that would validate that I was lying.

I think it'd be hard to hide my disdain for Perry. ON the other hand, Hannity would treat me nice.

The question doesn't say I have to do a good job advocating for Rick Perry.

"When I saw him take off his KKK hood to give a late-term abortion to a muslim undocumented immigrant, because of his love of Obamacare, I knew that this man would be our next president!"

And, you wouldn't get the money. They would let it rot on a court docket forever.

I do like the idea, but i think you may have gone over the edge.

For $2 mil a pop, I'd give a rousing endorsement riddled with ridicule for every Republican out there, even George W!

I stand by this man. I stand by this man because he stands for things. Not only for things, he stands on things. Things like aircraft carriers, and rubble, and recently flooded city squares. And that sends a strong message: that no matter what happens to America, she will always rebound—with the most powerfully staged photo ops in the world.

"Oh, they're just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic." First of all, that is a terrible metaphor. This administration is not sinking. This administration is soaring. If anything, they are rearranging the deck chairs on the Hindenburg!"

I could never be as brilliant, but I'd follow his example.

There are some things a good liberal with at least an ounce of self-awareness and understanding of personal finances won't do...That sort of money is like a large lottery winning - 95% chance of ending up with a divorce, bankruptcy, and losing pretty much all one's friends if the person winning the lottery isn't already financially savvy enough to handle a large sum of money.
Publically receiving $2mil brings all sorts of sharks and connivers circling you to get at that money before the check clears your account.

The right amount of a sudden windfall that most people can handle without an existing trust or arrangement controlling that money is around $200K; however, that's not enough to buy my self-respect.

My brain understands that it's too much money for me to handle if it was offered. (Not enough time to properly set everything up before a money-bomb like that starts to blow up around me and life gets too crazy.)
So, even if it was tempting, no.

Oh, did I mention that in my professional life, I'm a risk assessor? The first reaction to any situation that comes up is "Observe, Assess, then act..."

Fri Jan 30, 2015, 04:01 PM

that would really benefit.

The value of a donation would easily outweigh any value of my endorsement: nobody listening to Hannity has ever heard or me, so the only outcome of my spiel would be "who the heck was that?"...

12. Am I the only person they are recruiting? And do I get to choose to my own wording?
Fri Jan 30, 2015, 04:06 PM
Jan 2015

Here is my reasoning.

As it stands, I don't think Rick Perry has a chance in hell of even getting the nomination, let alone winning the general. But, if they get hundreds of ordinary folks going on to tout him, that might improve his chances.

I'd take two million if I can choose my own wording AND, most importantly, if I am sure my endorsement won't put him in the White House.

Otherwise no. I can fudge some for $2,000,000, be ambiguous, if it harms no one, but I will not sell out my "fellow Americans" for $2,000,000. I honestly cannot say if my ability to live comfortably with myself has a price tag. If it does have a price tag at all, I just discovered that the price must be higher. Then again, it's not a survival issue for me. If it is for someone else, no judgment.

ETA: But you did make me think!
