Bibi Netanyahu -- aka 'The Republican Senator From Israel' -- May Have Made A Fatal Political Mistake

Set aside, for the moment, the diplomatic row being sparked by Speaker of the House John Boehner as he seeks to create two conflicting foreign policies for the United States—one pursued by the President and the other pursued by the Congress.

Boehner’s hubris, in conjunction with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s desire to interfere with American policy while seeking to bolster his re-election campaign, may turn out to be the very political screw-up that will allow the joint ticket forged by the Labor-Hatnuah political parties to bring an end to Netanyahu’s long reign atop the Israeli government.

According to a Channel 10 poll out this past Thursday in Israel, the joint ticket offered by the Labor-Hatnuah coalition currently stands to grab 24 seats in the Israeli Knesset in the coming election—up one seat from the previous poll—while Netanyahu’s Likud Party is holding steady with just 20 seats.

The poll also projects that the party leaders atop the Labor-Hatnuah ticket, Issac Herzog and Tzipi Livni, have an increasingly good chance of forming the next Israeli government by assembling a coalition of between 61 and 68 seats in support of their government.

It turns out that there are no shortage of Israeli voters who don’t care for the idea of their Prime Minister jumping into the middle of America’s internal disagreements over foreign policy and further understand that, at the end of the day, Israel remains deeply dependent upon the United States for critical assistance in the never-ending battle to preserve and protect their nation.

Easy to make mistakes, when all puffed up with hubris.

… when they say Israel is the only real democracy in the middle east they mean it. There are debates and disagreement within Israel and not 100% of the population is a Bibi person?

Sheldon Adelson, who has spent recent elections treating the Republican party like his personal plaything, also owns a pro-Netenyahu tabloid in Israel. In other words, Adelson is Israel's Rupert Murdoch. So, of course, Netenyahu is going to fly across the Atlantic and insert himself into U.S. affairs in an effort to bolster pro-oil Republicans who want to invade Iran at the behest of U.S. oil oligarchs.

is the US going into the Security Council and saying "abstain" instead of "veto"

I didn't think it could even be a possibility, but Nutty-Boo-Boo is making it a glimmer of happening.

Glad you're here. I wonder how many times he wants to spit into the wind, thinking nothing will splash back on him? REALLY he seems to be acting rather recklessly. Regardless how he feels about who's in the White House at any given moment, THIS is who the President is. Hell, we had to stomach his preference in the last decade. Show respect, and not grandstanding, Mr. Prime Minister. Try being a little more statesman-like. You've been around long enough to know the proper protocol. MUST you alienate people to make your point? Some of those people are loyal and ardent supporters.

Although this is like the third time you have welcomed me, due to my low post count.

Over the last year or so, I kept looking at the domestic policies of Israel, and wondering if the PM was trying to provoke another intifada.

But the last few weeks have cleared that up for me. He's Dick fucking Cheney in a yarmulke; he just don't give a shit.

The Secretary of State or the President should inform the good minister from Israel that he should wait for the invitation through proper channels? In our form of democracy, the Speaker of the House does not have that authority. Perhaps we might inquire as to just what he wishes to talk to the American people about? Perhaps he would like to go on C-SPAN and inform the American people?

...that does not have the power to negotiate. I think he'll end up cancelling. And when he does, it will also be a mighty blow to Boehner and the GOP.

I am so looking forward to that.

He gets re-elected because of fear (he must pray for Hamas every night) and fear is very hard to overcome.
