The Most Ancient and Magnificent Trees From Around the World

http://www.msn.com/en-us/travel/article/the-most-ancient-and-magnificent-trees-from-around-the-world/ss-AA8wtLk?ocid=mailsignout#image=1

Living up to 500 years, these bizarre trees are unique to the island of Socotra. Growing in severe conditions, the tree has raised its branches upward over time in an effort to obtain moisture from the highland mists. Once part of a vast forest, these remaining trees are now classified as endangered.

The Bowthorpe Oak is a massively thick, millennium-old tree in Lincolnshire, England that once was rumored to hold three dozen people in its enormous, hollowed-out trunk. Beth Moon photographed the leafy giant some 15 years ago and was struck by its solemn nobility and overwhelming presence. Thus began a pilgrimage that would take her around the world to document the planet’s most ancient trees.

The Sentinels of St. Edwards. Stow-on-the-Wold, England, 2005.
Planted sometime in the 18th century, these two yews are probably survivors of a celebrated, formal avenue that led to the door of the church.

Here's the Tunnel of Trees on our Island.. not as ancient as yours but interesting.. especially since they came back after they got wiped out in Hurricanes Iwa in 1982 and Iniki on 9/11/92!

Historic, picturesque and inspiring all-in-one, the Tunnel of Trees on Kauai leads the way along Highway 520 to Poipu Beach. Tall eucalyptus trees line Maluhia Road near Koloa, creating a dense, green corridor toward South Shore Kauai. In 1992, when Hurricane Iniki hit Kauai and the rest of Hawaii, the canopy of the Tunnel of Trees was damaged. Today, the trees have once again flourished and create a complete tunnel with closed top.

Over a century ago, Scottish businessman and cattle rancher Walter Duncan McBryde donated over 500 eucalyptus trees from his estate for the beautification of Maluhia Road. McBryde co-founded the McBryde Sugar Company, managed the Kauai Pineapple Company, and also donated Kukuiolono Park to Kauai residents. Today, McBryde is buried near the 8th hole of Kukuiolono Golf Course. Two hurricanes have damaged the tree tunnel, one in 1982 and another in 1992. The trees have since regrown to a full state.
