"Cop Watching" As groups police the police, some add guns to the mix

Last edited Fri Jan 23, 2015, 08:07 PM - Edit history (1)

I did not know there was such a thing as "cop watching". But just now came across it.

I watched this video and have seen this man with the white hat (Kory Watkins) in previous pics--He was generally walking around a store with his big gun.

The video at the link is good:

As groups police the police, some add guns to the mix

Last Updated Jan 22, 2015 6:49 AM EST

As the debate over police-related violence persists across the country, some critics have taken it upon themselves to monitor law enforcement across America, increasingly turning to a controversial tactic known as cop-watching.

"Going out, filming police officers, basically in acts of self-defense. ... Cop-watching is a direct action tactic," said Antonio Beuhler, co-founder of the Peaceful Streets Project, a grassroots advocacy group based in Austin, Texas, dedicated to increasing police accountability.

Beuhler, a veteran of the Iraq war and a graduate of West Point and Stanford University, said he took up cop-watching after his first run in with the police three years ago. An officer was caught on camera assaulting him at a gas station in Austin, after Beuhler had verbally intervened in what he thought was an act of police brutality against a woman the officer had pulled over.

"I've been arrested now five times cop-watching, and I've had 10 different charges filed in the courts against me," said Beuhler. "Its expensive, time-consuming, and every night in jail is misery.".................

Great idea. Hopefully stunts like this will end taking precious with them everywhere they go. I feel bad for this guy for his abuse, but bringing a gun against an army isn't really a good idea. I bet more cops would rather people keep their guns at home, this will push that effort I hope.

Texas Open Carry Group Wants To “Hunt Down” Lawmakers Who “Don’t Support The Constitution”

Open Carry Tarrant County, a chapter of the gun rights advocacy group Open Carry Texas, created further tension with the group and GOP lawmakers in Texas by publicly declaring the need to “hunt down the Republicans” who aren’t pushing a bill in the state legislature that would allow people to openly carry unlicensed handguns. Earlier this month, the group drew the ire of many conservatives and open carry advocates for their bullying tactics towards elected officials when they barged into the State Capitol and confronted representatives in an effort to intimidate them into supporting the open carry of handguns.

At that time, the leader of Open Carry Texas, CJ Grisham, called out the head of the Tarrant County chapter, Kory Watkins, for “starting fires.”

I’ll be spending tomorrow cleaning up the horse manure Kory Watkins dropped throughout the Capitol today instead of building support for constitutional carry. If starting fires were up for a vote, he’d be a grand arsonist. Yes, I said it. Some of us actually want bills passed that repeal laws violating our fundamental rights instead of vying for the title of Jackass of the Year. I’m done playing softball. I’m still getting phone calls from representatives and media hours later.

Due to Watkins’ actions, state legislators requested panic buttons to be installed in their offices. Really, who can blame them? When you have belligerent gun nuts barging into your office demanding you let them carry firearms anywhere and everywhere, it is likely you’d want to have as much protection as possible.................
