Bob Dylan wants billionaire ‘job creators’ to start actually creating some jobs

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2015/01/bob-dylan-would-like-billionaire-job-creators-to-start-actually-creating-some-jobs/

Bob Dylan urged billionaires to start creating some of those jobs they’re always talking about.

“The government’s not going to create jobs, it doesn’t have to,” Dylan said a wide-ranging interview with AARP. “People have to create jobs, and these big billionaires are the ones who can do it. We don’t see that happening. We see crime and inner cities exploding with people who have nothing to do, turning to drink and drugs. They could all have work created for them by all these hotshot billionaires. For sure that would create lot of happiness.”

The legendary musician said he gains satisfaction from his grueling tour schedule – playing more than 100 concerts a year at age 73 – rather than reflecting on his success.

“How can a person be happy if he has misfortune?” he said. “Some wealthy billionaire who can buy 30 cars and maybe buy a sports team, is that guy happy? What then would make him happier? Does it make him happy giving his money away to foreign countries? Is there more contentment in that than in giving it here to the inner cities and creating jobs?”

Dylan admits no one can force the wealthy to give away any of their money or to create a job, saying “I’m not talking about communism,” but he urged them to use their money “in a virtuous way.”

He creates jobs from his tour crew to every venue he plays at. HE creates jobs when he records, and in case you missed it:

He opened a hotel in Woodstock, NY. You wanna tell me again how he doesn't create jobs?

Oh mercy! it ain't me, babe! Tell me that it isn't true! I don't believe you! World gone wrong!

These may be some of the thoughts that ran through Bob Dylan's mind when he learned that the Hotel Dylan is now open for business in Woodstock, N.Y. At the very least, they're a few of the Dylan song and album titles that ran through our mind when we heard the news

Never mind that Dylan has no official or unofficial connection to the hotel (whose marketing slogan is: "Peace. Love. Stay&quot .

The hotel is named after him and is located in the rustic town where Dylan lived about for 18 months between 1967 and 1969. It has music-themed rooms, although none are named after Dylan (a move that may wisely have been undertaken to avoid potential litigation).

I repeat: maybe Dylan could use some of his wealth to create some jobs that didn't directly benefit bobbie. All the jobs you list are jobs that help him make more money than the cost of the jobs.

Dylan's never pretended to be anything other than a capitalist, so I'm not sure why he's taking this line so late in life.

This is pretty funny, I have to say:

Dylan's never pretended to be anything other than a capitalist, so I'm not sure why he's taking this line so late in life.

You are aware that many people were upset when he decided to do commercials in 2004? That was when they accused hoim of selling out --hilariously IMO — at the age of what, 63 or 64? This idea that he is a lifelong capitalist like it is a bad thing is really funny.

You know his artistic history, right?

Dylan started as a user. He used the movement to make his name, then abandoned it. I can't see that he's changed his stripes much.

left the movement when he'd gotten what he wanted out of it: fame.

it's pretty well-known to those who were paying attention.

Joan Baez, his occasional singing partner and girlfriend during that period, noted in "No Direction Home," Martin Scorcese’s 2005 documentary on Dylan’s early career, the folk legend was far less political -- and perhaps sincere -- than his songs sometimes suggested:

“Thirty-some years, whenever I go to a march or a sit-in, or a lie-in or a be-in or a jail-in people’d say ‘Is Bob coming?’ I’d say, ‘He never comes, you moron.’ You know, ‘When are you going to get it? Never did, probably never will.’

that there is any legitimacy to trickle down theory in devising national fiscal/labor policies. It's just a matter of time before our fiscal policies become much more dramatically left and 'soak the rich'. In fact, it could be argued that the blazingly fast rise in popularity of Elizabeth Warren marks the beginning of the end.

... or economic collapse and revolution.

FDR kept the heads of the oligarchs out of the guillotines, and kept their estates from being burned.

I don't think appealing to the good graces of the oligarchs will be effective. Many, maybe most of them, are sociopaths. That's how they got to be oligarchs.

But democratic leaders can restructure our tax system to make it just, and aggressive democratic forces can rob the oligarchs of their comfortable sleep. Let them look out the windows of their luxury hotel rooms and limousines and be fearful of all the ordinary people bearing witness to their grotesque crimes.

I need to know when Bob Dylan or others that feel same way - and are as wealthy - have ever complained about having to pay higher taxes or off-shored their money?

I need to know why he should have to be the "job creator".

Those that think he should, aren't democrats, progressive, liberal or even moderately conservative... and you're not fooling anyone.

Carry on.
