This BS takes the cake, pardon the expression....
"We never refuse service," Silva told My Fox Houston. "We did feel that it was not right for us to write hateful words or pictures against human beings."
Although Silva says she offered to bake the cake and sell extra frosting to Jack so that he could write whatever he wanted, that apparently wasn't enough. The customer responded by filing a complaint with the Civil Rights division of the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA), saying he was being discriminated against because of his religious beliefs.
In a statement released to Denver's KUSA-TV, NBC9, Jack said, "I believe I was discriminated against by the bakery based on my creed. As a result, I filed a complaint with the Colorado Civil Rights division."...

The conversation amongst readers below the piece is interesting~!

(135,425 posts)He's doing a "Brietbart" but with even less brains. He's trying to play a "gotcha" game but he doesn't understand the NUANCE of the situation. In sum, he's a bit of an idiot!
He's trying to make a point about that lady who 'lost her business' when people boycotted her after she refused to make a cake for a gay couple. The lady was in the wedding cake business, but she refused the gay pair.
Now, I rather doubt that the owner of this bakery is in the 'Hate Cake business' and even if she were, she's not very good at it because she's never made a Hate Cake and doesn't intend to start now!
The guy is trying to equate the two situations, but he's failing. It would be amusing to have a seat in that courtroom to hear and see the judge laugh this guy out of court.
The discussion underneath the article is pretty good--there are a few mouth - breathers in the bunch, but there are also commenters who put the situation in perspective and call the guy out for what he is.

(39 posts)... and that likely led to reduced business.
Was there ever any court action that affirmed their right to refuse service?

(135,425 posts)I don't know if the couple sued, or just publicized.
Either way, a business should have liability insurance--but that's not going to help if the customers hold their noses and walk away!!!

(135,425 posts)group!!! I think this is one of those nuisance suits by someone who makes Dale Gribble look like a Rhodes Scholar!
The GOP can translate into Spanish/change every damn speech any one of those turds makes, but when one of their nutters goes after a baker with the name SUGAR in her business name, it's time for the entire Latino community to give 'em all the stink eye and keep walking to the left!

(5,358 posts)What kind of "creed" is that? And who the hell is going to eat this cake. That creep was just "setting up" the bakery for a nutjob-style lawsuit.

(9,154 posts)The oligarchs are smugly laughing.
Reading the piece, I was disappointed more information was not provided about what the regulator did. I can imagine that the baker had to deal with some correspondence, and likely had some stress invoked. How many times was she contacted by the regulator? What was the substance of those contacts?

(135,425 posts)This is an evolving story. It broke just this week.
The baker is getting a load of 'facebook love.' She's got the high ground here. I think if anyone from the Civil Rights shop contacted her beyond advising her that someone is whining, she'd have mentioned it.
The resolution of this gripe will probably involve a lot of laughter--not the least when this nitwit is laughed out of court. I'm betting this woman will need to hire staff or have everyone work overtime--I'll bet her business doubles! She is gonna have a good winter season, I think!

(12,778 posts)Hate is not a Christian value. The baker was right to refuse this order, and the customer is an asshole.
MADem
(135,425 posts)Thing is, the baker did NOT refuse to bake the cakes. She was happy to do it, she just wasn't going to infringe upon her OWN free speech rights by being forced to write hate speech that violated her values. She offered to sell the guy the icing to write the words himself, but she wasn't going to do it. He could have the cakes, but he was going to have to scrawl the hate speech all by himself.
He doesn't have a case, but I'll bet Azucar Bakery is getting a lot of business!

(50,562 posts)In the "Sweet Cakes by Melissa" and "Masterpiece Cakes" cases, the owners of those bakeries told the potential customers, "I refuse to sell you a wedding cake."
In the "Azucar" case, the owner told the potential customer, "I will bake you a Bible-shaped cake (apparently now the number of cakes has increased; the first report I saw said it was only one), and sell you the equipment and supplies to write anything you want on it, but I will not write hateful things on a cake."
BTW how the hell did PASTRY become the great battleground?
