I feel so proud

Back in 1991, after working in the political field here in California for 5 years doing work for the UFW, Co-chair of Jackson '88 for San Diego County, running a few campaigns for city council for San Diego, working on Lucy Kilea's campaign for state senate, and talking with Jerry Brown who uged me on this path, I ran for the state assembly as a political nobody in western San Bernardino County (Inland Empire). I captured right around 21 percent of the vote in a three way race for the Democratic primary. The other two split the rest equally around 38 to 39 percent (they were both very well known). I was out spent $50,000 for each of them to $1,500 for myself.

I eventually went to work for a State Senator and became his lead advisor and pushed on of my three focuses from my campaign. Kathleen Brown loved the idea and Jerry even voiced his liking of the idea. That idea? To have Community Colleges start offering bachelor's degrees in some areas.

It is now, finally, happening. Too bad it took so long because I was forced out of the political world in 1997 with health issues. For about 5 years, I kept in touch with a lot of people as my idea grew. However, life got in the way as I moved on with my own life trying to conquer health issues that kept me in and out of a chair for 8 years.

It feels amazing to see something that I proposed and worked on for more than 10 years finally come to fruition.
