Jan 18, 2015 — Dear Petition Supporters,

I apologize for not getting this sent sooner, but I am very happy to report that we were able to release one of the eaglets that Mr. Patterson rescued back into the wild on New Year's Day. What a way to bring in the New Year!

We spent the morning driving about 3 hours west of Chicago to the mighty Mississippi River and witnessed Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation Center Founder, Dawn Keller, release "Sam" near Lock & Dam 15 in Rock Island, IL. Sam, who was announced as a male eagle, received his name from the proposed "Good Samaritan Law" that Dawn Keller initiated shortly after this petition started.

This part of the river was loaded with over 200 bald eagles in a very small area, which is perfect for a young eagle to find food and learn from other eagles (which Sam had been stealing fish and chasing an adult eagle at the rehab center very well).

At this time, "Patty", the female sibling of Sam, is still at Flint Creek and will remain there until it is determined whether or not she can be released. Patty received her name in honor of and reference to Mr. Patterson.

Thank you all again for your continued support. We will keep you posted on any developments regarding the upcoming hearing on February 23rd. If you would like to see photos of the release, you can visit the photo album at http://tinyurl.com/samrelease2015
