"Do you know any parent who has a daughter who says, 'Honey, if you make really good grades, someday when you're 12 or 13 we'll get you your own stripper pole?'" Huckabee asked.
"I think that's diminishing Beyonce in a way that's truly outrageous," Stewart shot back, and then introduced a clip of Huckabee playing bass guitar during a Ted Nugent performance of "Cat Scratch Fever," a song loaded with sexual references.
"You excuse that type of crudeness because you agree with his stance on firearms. You don't approve of Beyonce because she seems alien to you," Stewart said. "Johnny Cash shot a man just to watch him die -- that's some gangsta shit!"
Huckabee claimed Nugent's song is different because "it's an adult song."
But Stewart didn't buy it.
"You can't single out a corrosive culture and ignore the one that you live in because you're used to it," Stewart said.
Huckabee told Stewart to read his new book, "God, Guns, Grits and Gravy."
"Oh, I read it," said Stewart.
"Did you?" Huckabee challenged. "OK."
"It ain't Shakespeare," Stewart said.

(2,097 posts)I was 15 when it was released. There were a whole lot of kids in my high school who loved that album, including most of my friends (though not me, I'm proud to say), but I can't envision any adult in 1977 listening to "Cat Scratch Fever."
zeemike
(18,998 posts)And I did not like the song at all and would never have bought that album...and in fact I don't know of a single friend of mine that did...his music sucked plain and simple...IMO.

(1,245 posts)I do think though that Jon (sadly) was barking up the wrong tree on this argument though. Reason being that Huckabee isn't giving Beyonce a hard time for making music, he's giving BO a bad time for letting his kids listen to Beyonce's music.
What would've worked much better is if he'd asked MH if he'd have allowed, say, his 14 year old son to listen to Ted Nugent ... and while doing so, showed a clip of Huckabee onstage with the Nuge.
Presumably Huckabee says 'yes, I would' cause he won't want to make his buddy Nuge look bad, nor make it seem like he rocks out with unsavory types.
Then show another clip of Nugent singing such chestnuts from CSF as "I can make a pussy purr with the stroke of my hand', and 'I don't know why they come here but they sure do come' ...
Now THAT ... would've set Huck up perfectly for a proper roasting.
As it went down, Jon was left kinda flailing for reasons to legitimately bash the Huckster ... unless Jon gets Huck to admit he'd let his KIDS listen to Nuge's music, Jon's argument was essentially rendered a non-sequitur.
zeemike
(18,998 posts)It would have been better to set a trap for him like that.
But I don't think Jon is that kind of guy...to try to destroy someone even like the Huckster...
But what he did was enough.
Oh and BTW I never heard that song... But even a blind hog...

(1,245 posts)And actually, I always thought the song 'Free For All' was a catchy and fairly decent (totally generic) rock song ... got a good bass line & groove ... and prior to his becoming a total ass, I wouldn't rush to change the station, put it that way.
The vast majority of the dude's music though ... is total tripe.
Like ... Wango Tango???
Really, dude?
And yeah, the vast majority of his music was (as mentioned below) totally written for horny, misogynist teenage BOYS, no question.
zeemike
(18,998 posts)And it could be because I was no longer a horny teenage boy.
And besides at that time there was tons of great music to being made, some of the best actualy...so I just never heard most of his songs...and did not know anyone that had his albums.

It is deliberate because it is bold aggression that they know we will try to deny and explain or apologies for...attack the basic fundamental belief and it will be defended and they never have to defend theres.

They are too dumb to realize how dumb they are.

He could have asked what music his son was listening to when he was kicked out of the Boy Scouts after an animal torturing incident. But I guess he felt that Huckabee's dragging Obama's kids into it didn't justify bringing it up.

(3,248 posts)One of my conservative FB friends posted a very serious warning about Beyonce promoting devil/demon worship.
Followed the post down a rabbit-hole of weirdness. A whole website devoted to finding evidence that Beyonce either is or has an alter-ego that is a demon. Lots of screen-caps and photos catching her in unflattering positions (as will happen when someone is singing and performing intensely, of course.)
It was laughably stupid, but obviously these people take crap like this very seriously. The website and the comments on it were fanatic about warning people to keep their kids away from this seemingly innocent performer who was, honest to gawd, trying to convert or transform children.
Huckabee's bizarre obsession with her, and his fixation on the Obama's being culturally deficient for letting their daughters listen to her songs, suggests to me that he buys into all this at some level. Perhaps he realizes that if he went full-on "Beyonce is a demon" in public, he realizes he would get ridiculed (or possibly sued!) so he is dog-whistling the whole thing.
