A woman in Tasmania remodels Bratz dolls (Tree Change Dolls: http://treechangedolls.tumblr.com/)
Bratz dolls were off limits when my daughter was young - they're obnoxious. I wish I had thought of this great idea. The dolls look like regular kids now - much better.

(5,557 posts)I would happily buy a doll like the after photo as a gift for my little niece.

(58,724 posts)That's the real problem with these dolls.

(26,117 posts)I'm probably one of a few here who doesn't have a problem with Barbie's totally unrealistic figure, because I believe that she was designed that way so the doll-sized clothes would look proportionally correct - fabric doesn't "hang" right when it's so small, so the doll is weird-shaped, and the clothes are super-tailored, in order to more closely resemble regular clothing styles.
That said, the Bratz dolls' heads are SO large that they seem more like a cartoon character - not like a real-sized person. My issue is with the ridiculous face stye, overdone makeup, and the attitude they seem to convey.

(58,724 posts)The whole thing is way beyond my understanding.

(110,159 posts)What sort of attitude is conveyed by the name "Bratz" and the pouty over-made-up face? Yuck.

(32,086 posts)Same eye make-up, same lipstick job. Same vapid expression. Now I know from where that originated.

(20,885 posts)For boys, I would guess it's toy guns and transformer type monsters. Nothing much to see here.

The "Bratz" dolls don't look like children. The re-made dolls don't look sexualized to me.
Not sure what you mean...

(20,885 posts)The toys are surrogates, providing a displacement. It's the Freudian in me.

(26,117 posts)I think my daughter first learned about the depression from the Kit Kittredge movie (based on the AG doll).
I think the accessories are awesome. Too expensive, but awesome.

(26,117 posts)when she was little.
When she was about 3, she and the doll wore matching Christmas dresses (with hats!) to our family x-mas on Christmas Eve. My daughter woke from her nap with a terrible sore throat, so I took her to the ER, so she could get an antibiotic ASAP.
Our ER nurse must have mentioned my daughter out at the desk, because ALL the nurses came in to see her with her matching dolly - they all called her "Little Miss Christmas" and gave a little stocking full of candy.

(1,850 posts)I had no idea about American Girls dolls. Then one day I happened upon an AG catalog. It was the first time ever that I regretted not having a daughter!
I'm about to get a granddaughter. This is my chance to make up for lost time!!
My son (her father-to-be) refers to the "Disney Princess-Industrial Complex." I plan to participate.

(26,117 posts)I like dolls. I played with them; my mom and sisters made clothes for them, and my dad made terrific furniture. I still have them all.
My mom made some clothes for my daughter's Bitty Baby (by American Girl) when she was little - very special.
