"The Good Lie" (2014)--under the Oscar-hype radar...

a jewel goes unnoticed and unrewarded.

Real Sudanese refugies give the performance of their lives. And, Reese Witherspoon plays a role that rivals "Wild" (albeit less physically demanding).

Just one of the comments from viewers:

"Beautiful movie of endurance, love and strength. I remember back then when the refuges started coming over. Arizona welcomed quite a few and I remember thinking, wow! where did they all come from?

You could tell they were new to the USA just from how they reacted to those around them. They were so very polite and also they way they dressed was just a little bit off. And yet, I really didn't know why why I was seeing all these new immigrants.

Being young and never having followed world news I was clueless. But, I was curious enough to do some research and what I learned broke my heart.

Just like the character Reese Witherspoon played, I had no clue until I looked online. So many of us all take for granted what we have here in America until something reminds us.

Like this movie or even a simple picture or story online that opens our eyes. Take the time to watch this movie, it's worth it. Keep Kleenex handy though."

Make the effort to see this movie. And, recommend it to those around you who bitch and moan about the "immigrant issue".

I was apprehensive because I am not a Reece fan anymore. However, I may give it a try on Amazon Instant Video. So many good movies out now that it is difficult to pick. I am going to the Jennifer Lopez movie next weekend and this weekend went to American Sniper and last weekend went to Unbroken. The good movies are coming out of the woodwork lately. I guess it is that time of year when they release a ton of good movies.

The acting by the Sudanese young people is just astonishing--touchingly funny, but gut-wrenching at the same time.

But, then, they actually lived through the events they're portraying on the screen.

Started to watch "Wild" but had to shut it off because I thought she was awful. I just can't take her seriously in a serious movie. She looks 12 (not her fault) but don't think she's a good serious actress.

She's decent in those cute movies like Sweet Home Alabama, Legal Blonde, and she was great in Election, but was again playing sort of a cutesy role.
