(63,216 posts)And how do you know that they're dachshunds, since the endlessly-repeated mantra here is that it's impossible to know a dog's breed unless you've either analyzed its DNA or you're declaring a pit bull to be a super-duper animal?

(63,216 posts)Everyone knows that pit bulls are imaginary and can't be identified, unless you like them, in which case you can infallibly identify them by sight alone.
In any case, even if they existed, they'd be awesome and loving dogs that never hurt anyone unless driven to do so by evil humans. And have you heard about dachshunds? Well, they don't exist either, but if they did they'd be totally totally dangerous.

Even if you use 30 dog bite fatalities the chances of dying by dog mauling is pretty low.
I'm not pro pitt. I work with dogs every day. Something like 86% of serios dog bits are pitts, rotts, boxers, presa canarios,, cane corsos. I wish people would not buy those dogs but they do. I worry more about how dog aggressive they are. Owners need to be extremely careful to keep their dogs under control at all times.
If you get into area where those breeds are banned you find most attacks are northern breeds - huskies and malamutes and wolf dogs.
All i'm trying to say is that your chances of dying from a dog mauling are pretty low. 30,000 die from gunshots and another 75,000 end up inthe ER.

(31,518 posts)attention, not fatalities. I have known people who own some of the breeds you mention and the main draw seems to be that the dogs are aggressive and "tough". Most are not properly socialized and are poorly trained. I agree that owners need to keep their dogs under control, but the fact is, many of them do not.
There are certain traits that have been bred into dogs for centuries and you can't "train" that instinct out of them. Some dogs have been bred to herd animals, some have been bred to retrieve game and some have been bred to fight. Man has made them and now man has to deal with them.

(18,868 posts)Same reason guys dress up like bikers and ride bad ass Harleys I guess.
I wouldn't want the liability. One dog attack by your dog and your life wouldbe over. Not only the guilt. From having caused grevious injury but the law suits would leave you broke for the rest of your life. I think people are crazy for taking a risk like that.
