https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/remove-ted-cruz-position-nasa-oversight-subcommittee-space-science-and-competitiveness/0hj7fRCYRemove Ted Cruz from position for NASA oversight of the Subcommittee on Space, Science and Competitiveness
"Ted Cruz is not qualified to hold position to oversee NASA or any other Science based Committee.
He is scientifically illiterate, and constantly shows bias against scientific proof and facts against his own personally held religion and beliefs."
Please sign the petition, it requires giving an email and clicking an emailed confirmation link, but Ted Cruz is so clearly wrong for this position.

(11,843 posts)ANY publicity towards that is well worth the effort.
Feel free to whine and to piss on the concept at any effort to call attention to the idiocy of Cruz chairing oversight of Science and Space.

This kind of petition is an exercise in utter futility. Perhaps one addressed to the Republican leadership would have an effect, but I doubt it.

SheilaT
(23,156 posts)do anything about committee assignments, you'd be better off writing letters to the Republicans responsible for this nonsense. It truly is a waste of time and energy to sign a petition like this since it will go nowhere at all. It won't be passed on to the Republican leadership, and they are the people you need to let know that not all Americans are batshit ignorant.

(28,127 posts)But you don't know how many petitions I sign each day. And it's easier than posting on DU since my computer automatically entering my info with two keystrokes. My point is , even though I know as you do, this petition is futile, it makes MSNBC blog post which In turn generates more awareness. And besides it makes me feel better.
I also signed this one sent to me by the DSCC on removing Cruz from this chairship:
https://act.dscc.org/el/2282152287436537856/9012552776856633344?midqs=1603348537553190912
Perhaps you'd care to tell the other signers on this thread.
Hey, I joke a lot.
Happy trails to you.

(23,156 posts)make a difference. They don't. What do you actually do to change anything? Do you run for office? (I have) Do you give money to progressive candidates? (I have)
On line petitions do not affect anything They can make the signer feel good, but if they don't get to a recipient who matters, then why bother?
All of these on-line petitions are basically just pissing into the wind.

(28,127 posts)and donations. My congressman and one of my senators' staff knows me by my first unusual name.
And yes, I've sent money to every national campaign since 1999. Many years ago I was sent a dozen red roses by a local county Board of Supervisor for my major contribution to his campaign and was asked to asked to be on a committee which I had to decline because 1) I had just had my son and 2) because I was having a major health problem. I do not have the energy or inclination or ego to run for office but I congratulate you for having done so. I suppose you're just a better person than I am!!!!
I've tried to keep my responses light-hearted and don't appreciate your holier-than-thou approach to me. I sincerely meant you no offense whatsoever previously but now welcome to my ignore list.

(15,429 posts)The Senate sets the rules on committee chairmanship and no court has jurisdiction to alter that fact. Elections have consequences.

(45,984 posts)The President doesn't appoint Senate committee/subcommittee chairmen and cannot remove them.
It would be more appropriate to address the petition to the Senate Majority Leader, but it would be a waste of bandwidth to appeal to an idiot who has made a career of conflating free speech on the one hand with bribery and extortion on the other.
However, Thor has this one hammered: Senator Cruz is just wrong for this position.

(11,087 posts)Now how about one to remove Inhofe from the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. He's a staunch denier of Global Warming. I'm sure that 2014 setting a new record for warmest year ever will have no effect on his faith.
"Well actually the Genesis 8:22 that I use in there is that "as long as the earth remains there will be seed time and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, day and night," my point is, God's still up there. The arrogance of people to think that we, human beings, would be able to change what He is doing in the climate is to me outrageous."--actually said by the guy who is now chairman of the Senate committee overseeing environmental issues!
