More on how we decide...America in Wonderland

How we decide elections in America.

This is what I know from having seen, firsthand, many years ago, how TV commercials are produced and how America decides..

Candidate Jones has received a ton of money from a special interest group as a result of his voting and he is making a commercial promoting his campaign.

A professional writer writes a script for him, he is dressed impeccably according to the image his handlers wish to portray. He may be dressed casually or formally, it’s really not his decision. His face is well made up with just the right amount of powder to cover his stubble and to reduce the shine on his forehead. He even has a touch of lipstick to add a bit of color.

The set is prepared with every attention to detail and on cue he walks onto the set as the cameras are rolling ( Do they still use that word?) and he says “My name is Joe Candidate and I know exactly where I want to lead this country.”

“Try it again,” the director says, “This time put more emphasis on the word ‘exactly’.”

Again the cameras roll and again the candidate walks out on stage. “My name is Joe candidate and I know exactly where I want to lead this country.”

“That’s better, but smile more when you say the word ‘exactly’,” says the director.
And so he tries it again, and again and again.

When they’ve done this about ten or twenty times, they then go on to the second line
, “I care about America and I have the experience to get things done ,”
“Joe,” the director says, “try it again but this time smile more when you say that line.”
Take five.

“Well, that’s better,” says the director, “ but I think you smiled a bit too much.”
Take six.
“You’re getting it, but nod a bit when you say ‘And I have the experience.’”
And so on and on it goes.

Finally, they are finished and all the takes are brought back to the studio where they are all carefully studied and assembled into one final commercial with colorful graphics placed at the beginning and the end, all over a bed of carefully chosen music.

Six months late,r a man and a woman are watching a game show in their home somewhere in America when a man comes on the screen and says, “My name is Joe Candidate….”

When it is over the man and the woman look at each other and she says to him, “That is the man I will vote for in the next election. There’s just something about him I like!”

The man looks at her and says, “Yeah, I agree. I think it 's that he is just so sincere!

Yep that’s the way it’s done folks!
