but only in the narrow context of a perennial also-ran for the repub nomination, so, yeah, I get the comparison to RawMoney. I don't know much about his politics, but I suspect that in today's climate he'd be considered a 'left-of-center Democrat.'

Recent precedents for presidential candidates running again after losing once. Nixon of course let 8 years lapse, which probably contributed to his winning as people forgot the 1960 version. Don't think folks will forget the 2012 "47%" Mitt anytime soon.
