The poor girl was crying when I got done with her.
"Do you support the Keystone pipeline?" she started out.
"Hell no" I said
"Thank You" she said and was ready to hang up.
Me: "Wait - are you calling for support of Keystone?"
Her: "Yes"
Me: "Do you understand exactly what keystone is? Do you know it creates on a few serial construction jobs and very few permanent jobs? Do you understand that the oil goes through the US potentially polluting one of the largest aquifers in America and that the oil then goes to a refinery on the gulf coast where it is refined and then sold on the world market? Do you understand that the oil does not stay in the US?
Her: "No one ever told me that - I was told the oil stays in the US"
Me: "Well they lied to you. Did you ever wonder why Canada doesn't move it to their own coasts for refining and shipment? They don't want the pollution. Have you ever heard of the Kalamazoo River that has been essentially killed by a similar pipeline?"
her: "No - the media never talks about that"
Me: "Before you make the next call think about your children, your grandchildren and all the folks who are just like you who will eventually affected by an oil spill that will probably never be cleaned up. They have yet to clean up the Gulf. Do you want to be someone who helped cause this?"
Sounded like whimpering on the other end. I apologized for being so brutal, but said I was speaking of reality not the lies created by the media.

In Iowa we can change party affiliation at the polls for primaries. I have done so on numerous occasions in order to vote against gover-for-life Brandstad. This has resulted in my getting many calls from Republican operatives over the years. I fully expect more as things heat up for the caucuses.
In 2012 the Romney campaign called and asked me to be the chair of the Romney caucus in my little town. What an honor! Of course I accepted. Figured I could go there right after the democratic caucus I was chairing was done. I am hoping they finally purged me from their list after that, but who knows?
