"Killing in response to insult, no matter how gross, must be unequivocally condemned. That is why what happened in Paris cannot be tolerated. But neither should we tolerate the kind of intolerance that provoked this violent reaction. Those who work at this newspaper have a long and disgusting record of going way beyond the mere lampooning of public figures, and this is especially true of their depictions of religious figures. For example, they have shown nuns masturbating and popes wearing condoms. They have also shown Muhammad in pornographic poses. While some Muslims today object to any depiction of the Prophet, others do not. Moreover, visual representations of him are not proscribed by the Koran. What unites Muslims in their anger against Charlie Hebdo is the vulgar manner in which Muhammad has been portrayed. What they object to is being intentionally insulted over the course of many years. On this aspect, I am in total agreement with them. Stephane Charbonnier, the papers publisher, was killed today in the slaughter. It is too bad that he didnt understand the role he played in his tragic death. In 2012, when asked why he insults Muslims, he said, 'Muhammad isnt sacred to me.' Had he not been so narcissistic, he may still be alive."
Written by the virulently anti-gay and Christian dominionist leader of the catholic league, expressing sentiments not far off from what I have read recently by some self-proclaimed progressives. He even starts with the same "I don't condone violence, but they had it coming". Strange times, strange bedfellows right? Don't worry, when you march to rip down the walls of offensive free speech you'll have good ole gay bashing Bill Donohue at your side! Why, he should open up an account here. Except for the whole wanting gays to be thrown in jail thing he'll fit right in!
The emphasis on that beautiful "but" I have talked about people using is mine.
FYI, I'm not endorsing this quote. I think it is utter tripe, but I found it funny how well it parallels what I have been reading here by some posters. Right down to him calling the victims of this tragedy "narcissistic"

And as a member of DU, your comments brought to mind one of the worst moments that I had ever seen on DU -- That, the cheering on of each explosion. You have twisted that, bringing Israel into the conversation, but what I a remarking on is the evil that displayed itself on DU.
You may decline to admit that it happened, but it did.
Thank you for your reply.
