Hard to think of her as "The Old Guard." She always seemed younger than her actual age--she has good genes!

Gavin Newsome or the state attorney general are probably next for that seat, of course either one of them may want to be Governor.

They can't both be Governor (not at the same time, anyway), so I could see either of them considering the Senate.

In politics, academia and business.

There are a finite number of jobs. Those in prime positions hang on too long for various reasons giving the next generations no room for advancement.

Fiorina made a run of it, but that was a non-presidential cycle and a strong republican year.

It's not surprising because she wasn't fund raising any more, but it's still very hard to hear.

There were rumors before the election that she was the more likely retiree if we lost the Senate (and she will be 82 this year)
