Adopt a dog on your next hotel stay

Daily Mail:

Who let the dogs IN? Customers can adopt adorable pooches who greet them upon arrival at North Carolina boutique hotel

Guests at this boutique hotel in North Carolina can leave with more than a good night’s stay.

When customers arrive at the Aloft hotel in downtown Asheville they are greeted by an adorable dog wearing an ‘Adopt Me’ vest.

It is believed to be one of the first hotels in the world where guests can adopt an animal during their stay.

It’s part of an adoption programme run by the hotel and Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue, a local organisation which finds ‘forever homes’ for dogs, cats and other pets that may otherwise be euthanized at a shelter.

I stayed at the one in Jacksonville, FL with my rescue dog, Snowy, a couple of years ago.
Snowy liked riding in the elevator, but we startled more than one person getting on/off the
elevator and seeing me and my 42 lb dog!

We took a week long road trip this summer, and by the end of the week, I was really missing our dog. Or even seeing a dog! At one of the last places we stopped at in Colorado, some folks were staying long term at the place we were at and they had a dog. It came up to me and I was SO happy to pet it. The people were trying to make it get away from me, but I was like "oh, please let me pet him a while, i miss my dog so much!" Of all the wonderful experiences we had, that one really sticks with me!

Mostly, it's to the beach (going to Sanibel when I stopped at the Jacksonville, FL Aloft )
but she comes with us to Charleston each year when we go to the Spoleto Festival.
It takes some doing to find dog friendly accommodations, but it's doable.

If you are traveling, this is a good site to find pet friendly hotels:

I'd wind up taking the dog home with me, plus probably others.

A few years back my neighbors dog got lost. I went to the pound for her to see if they had it and they did. But when I left I had not only the lost dog, but a yellow lab and a little black fur ball kitten.

The lab died just last year at age 13 or so. The kitty is still with us and now weighs about 20 lbs.

One look at the cages full of kitties waiting for homes and I'd have a houseful again.

Especially now, when I'm catless for the first time since I was 18.

I always have my two labs with me and I just stay at Motel 6s because all of them take pets no questions asked and usually with no extra fees.
