Christian Jose Gomez, 23, was arrested and charged with murder Thursday after his mother, Maria Suarez-Cassagne, was found dead and decapitated outside his house in Oldsmar, Florida, WFLA reported.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, at around 7:20 p.m. on New Year’s Ever, they received a call from Gomez’s brother, Mario, saying that Gomez had killed his mother and chopped her head off.

Gomez was spotted riding a bike a few blocks from the house and taken into custody. Police say he admitted to the killing. He is charged with first-degree murder.

Pinellas County Sheriff Lieutenant Elizabeth Brady told Sky News that Gomez had planned to kill his mother for two days, after she kept asking him to put some boxes in the attic.
