One year ago today, Greg Higgins woke before dawn and set out on a journey to a destination unknown.

He loaded his photography gear into his car, pulled away from his midtown Omaha home and faced the first of a year’s worth of decisions.

East or west?

As would happen day after day through most of 2014, Higgins, 50, let his intuition lead him. Some mornings he stayed in the city. Others he trekked to the outskirts. Wherever he ended up, he photographed that morning’s sunrise. Every day. Every sunrise.
